The answer should be provided by a cardiologist. What works for one person may not work for another. How severe is your HBP, age, gender, body type, and several other things that will lead a cardiologist to the correct medications and the proper doses?

In our case, all the tablets for lowering blood pressure did the opposite. A very cautious diet did much better. With the various tablets the nephrologist gave us, the blood pressure was as high as 190, and without - it is 145 to 170. Our physician told us that although doctors tend to be very concerned about the blood pressure and giving pills, but sometimes a low blood pressure even does harm to the kidney, because it makes it harder for a misfunctioning kidney to do its work and get rid of the waste.

Hi. Thank you for replying. This group are amazing. Your right, a cardiologist would be the right people to deal with blood pressure. Dads bp can vary from 165 over 80. To 170/85. We are definitely going to introduce a new diet plan for dad, our gp has never mentioned this or going to a cardiologist. He has just been giving him a different tablet every few months, although two of his bp tablets he has been taking for 3years.

There is no one best prescription and we each react differently even when given the exact same prescription. It is extremely important to work closely with your health care team to get your blood pressure within the right range - not too high and not too low. High blood pressure will put additional stress on the nephrons (filters) within your kidneys and damage them, while too low of blood pressure will reducing the effectiveness of your kidneys to filter. A lot of people are not aware of this, but your blood pressure is the power behind your kidneys filtering toxins and waste from your blood.

It may take your health care team some time and a lot of trial and error to get your blood pressure within the right range. It can be helpful to use a home blood pressure monitor to check your blood pressure throughout the day - one that syncs data to the cloud makes the data instantly available for your doctors. You may also find that the timing of your medication impacts your blood pressure throughout the day. For those with more severe kidney damage they may need to take their medication throughout the day to best control their blood pressure.

From my own personal experience (and I am very proactive and hands-on with my treatment strategy), it took my doctors nearly 1.5 months to fully control my blood pressure. During this time my medication, dosage, and timing was tweaked almost daily (especially the first 3-4 weeks). Understanding just how important blood pressure management is, I was very persistent that it get under control to prevent further damage and to avoid me being forced onto dialysis. Here is the combination that ended up working for me (you can see the prescriptions, dosage, and timing): dadvicetv.com/blood-pressur...

As you can see it is far more complex then just getting the right tablets - but this is an area your health care team should excel at addressing thanks to the wide range of options available to them. Good luck!

I agree with mr kidney. It is not appropriate for people on here to provide medical advice when we know nothing about you and secondly and more importantly we are not doctors. Go speak with a cardiologist. Hopefully you'll be able to find a good one. One bit of advice. If you are not happy with your current medical team please do change them. I made the mistake of trusting an incompetent nephrologist who basically did nothing for me for five years and I ended up on dialysis. Don't make the same mistake as me. I wish you all the best.

Agreed. It is against community guidelines to offer medical advice. Referral to medical team is first line!
