You’re lucky to have a son who wants to donate. I’m assuming all of your own tests are done and you are “listed” for a transplant. I had several possible donors evaluated and I think it took between 4 and 6 weeks. I also had other generous offers that were not followed through on because of the donor’s own health situation eliminated them. Have you asked your transplant team?

My son wants to be a downer but there's a great possibility he might not even mad because he smokes and everything so I just pray that all works out and the transplant team here it seems like you're taking all day everyday I'm in going through this process with them for almost 6 months I'm not even on the list yet they're still getting records and stuff

Hmm. Good luck. I know you can list with different centers, but it can take more time and money. Have you asked your nephrologist what’s going on?

So, is your son your blood type? Then they check to see if he matches your tissue. Since he gets 3 of these tissue markers from his Mom and 3 from his Dad, he should be a 3/6 match. If he is healthy and has no issues because he smokes he could very well be your donor. They will really check him out, because they want to make sure that giving you a kidney will not impact his life. Once they start testing it usually takes 4-6 weeks for them to accumulate all of the results. If a health issue pops up, it could take longer, or rule him out.

My brother and my cousin were going to be my donor, but both developed high BP and were automatically ruled out. I went on to receive a kidney from a deceased donor. This October will be my 20 year Kidney Anniversary.

Good luck to you. Keep us posted how it all goes

I was on the transplant list 2 1/2 years. My son wanted to be my live donor but we didn’t match he has his dads blood type not mine. I was on dialysis for nearly 4 years and was actually on the machine when I got the phone call telling me they had a kidney for me.

The process can take time. Have you been through all of your testing? Chest x-ray, mammogram, EKG, bloodwork and others? I developed a routine in calling weekly talking to my coordinator just to check in. Once listed I called monthly. This helps them as well. Your son may need to stop smoking. Every transplant center differs. Blessings
