Working: Just curious who here still works... - Kidney Disease
Working
I still work. 55 years old with GFR of 15. I still feel good and can work-out. I plan to continue working after dialysis, if and when i need it) which i why i am going the PD route. Plan to work after my transplant as well.
Hope that helps.
Hi,
I have continued working full time until September last year, now a 0.6 contract.
I have been on dialysis for 4 years, last two on haemodialisys, last 18 months on nocturnal home HD.
I am 72 and do not let this awful disease control my life, it fits in with my life. Will be travelling to Australia later in the year, complete with my next2me NxStage dialysis kit.
Transformed my life, while I am waiting for a transplant I just get on with living, above all have a positive outlook on life with a can do mind set.
Best wishes
Philip
I am in my early 40s, with GFR of 9. Going through PD dialysis training right now. I was teaching my nephew how to play baseball (well.. T-ball to start) this weekend. Plan on keeping working and being active.
I worked until about a week or two before my transplant. It wasn't easy for me. Honestly, looking back, I'm not sure who I did it. I went back to work (new and better job) about 3 or 4 months after my transplant.
I still work full time. I can’t say I don’t have some difficult days, but generally once I get into my day I start feeling better. I’m not the type to sit at home; ....until this disease has totally knocked me out, I will be here fighting. I refuse to let this disease dictate my life. I may have to make a few adjustments, but I’ll keep on, keeping on. 😉😬
I worked full time until the day before my transplant and then went back 3 months after the surgery (office work). However, I was tired at work and I was not very productive. I did have to take many days off for various medical appointments.
Thank you for all the responses. I am still working , I do have my tired days where I wish I could stay at home but I just try and get through. I plan to go back after my transplant.. I think I would go mad if I didn't work and stayed home. 😊
I started working a year after starting dialysis. Worked 30 hours per week for 7 years. I had a couple of breaks when my kidneys were removed. Loved my job and coworkers.
I retired a year earlier than I planned. But it was because I hated what was happening at my work more than anything. Now I am so busy with volunteering, I don't know how I would find the time.
