As some of you know, I’m currently trying to get a transplant since I am stage 5 with Kidney Disease. To those of you who had insurance cover most of your expenses, did you have to jump through a lot of hoops too?

The problem with my insurance is they keep asking me for all these tests to be done and I never know what they want from me until they send me a letter saying I’ve been denied (which I’ve gotten two in the past year).. I’m just curious if they’re beating around the bush on purpose or if they’re really trying to test my patience. 🙄

Hi,

What kind of tests would your insurance company be wanting? The only time I had anything denied was when they requested medical records from someone and didn’t get them

Well so far, I had to have evidence of a Pap smear, tb test, dental clearance, and a whole lot of other stuff. So I’m just going to get a physical done because I’m done playing around with them 🙄

Tazer, what hospital, state, insur. Do you have need more info.

I couldn't even imagine what you might be going through.sorry for that.

Hi, sorry you are having so much trouble. I was required to go through a lot of testing for the hospital that I got on donor list for, but never any problem from insurance. Wish I could give you more answers.

It’s fine. I’m just thankful you replied. Thank you ❤️

these all sounds like the tests that you need to have completed prior to a transplant evaluation, not so much for insurance purposes. Ask your physician for clarification.

You have found a great place with lots of caring people with many experiences. First, you deserve a team that is willing to listen and answer any questions you have.

This experience is scary but you are not alone! I always make a list of questions for your doctors. If I don’t understand I ask them to explain it again. I have even asked as they were leaving the room. I struggle with the diet too but more re: sodium, potassium, and protein . The dietician can give you info and resources that is very helpful but a lot is up to you to find what works for you. Good luck and remember there are lots of us with ckd here for you. Sorry I replied to the wrong post. I’m stage 4 so I don’t know anything about your question. I apologize for my mistake.

Hello again!

Like it was said above, the tests your insurance is asking for are actually part of the pre-transplant evaluation. I had to do these tests before being evaluated and before my insurance was willing to cover expenses, since they don't want to fork money over for something that you don't even actively qualify for. I would think that you have a transplant coordinator that could help you? They should have the most up to date tests that you need to undergo before evaluation to be listed, and there should also be a social worker who can help with insurance as well. I hope this helps at least a little!

Thank you to everyone who replied. I do have a coordinator up at U of M and also a social worker. My problem is I would of liked to known about all these test as soon as I was eligible to be active on the transplant list. It would of been easier that way and I could of had all these test done forever ago 😒😒
