I feel so defeated. Eating all the bad food from the holidays. Then family situations caused love one to be admitted to a mental hospital and released with the same issues. Now I’m leaving out of a suitcase afraid. Stressed Trying to regroup. Got back to drinking my water yesterday. Scheduled for lab work next week. Thinking I should reschedule until I get 100% back on schedule. Anyone every went off of eating what you know is right. And had terrible lab results and got back on track. I was doing so good

You really can't go off your kidney-friendly meal plan and not expect issues like less than satisfactory lab results. Having CKD and making the necessary changes must become a lifestyle. You don't get to work at it for 11 months and then go crazy during the holidays. Your kidneys don't know about Thanksgiving and Christmas. As far as the other issues go, you can't fix what you don't have control over. All you really can do is be supportive. Best of luck.

Hi, as Mr Kidney says this horrible disease you have is for life and you must stick to your renal diet.

Besides endrf I am type 2 diabetic so have to be very careful. I have worked hard at this with my wife’s unstinting support.

I actually think it is harder for a spouse to cope living with the pressures of this disease.

I have been fortunate enough to managed this well. At special times I do permit myself small indulgences but back on track the next meal time.it can be hard but with support from family it can be done.

I pray you will be on track soon and reconcile with your family

Philip

Hi

The first thing I'm going to say is take a deep breath and don't beat yourself up else your mental health will only suffer which will lead you to carry on reaching for the wrong foods.

Well done for reaching out it means you've realised you've done wrong for your overall kidney health. I have no idea what stage disease you are.

I would get the labs done twice, have the now to see how badly the levels have been affected the get back on it and check them again.

Kidney diet is important and it sounds like you know this so not going to lecture like others, you need to try and learn other ways of managing stressful situations as food isn't going to help you in the long run just hurt you more.

You've started with the water, now clear the cupboards and fridge/freezer or all unfriendly ckd foods, donate to food bank or local homeless shelter, win win situation.

Good luck and here to support you in this bump in the road

Charlene

Well done, at such early stage of diagnoses you will be fine, we all slip up from time to time and those that say different are kidding them selves. I found out 19 years ago at stage 4 and did delay things for many many years with the right diet and exercise so do keep at it. I'm just starting dialysis next week after it being delayed because of complications with fistula and no space at the unit.

Keep up the hard work it will be worth it

Charlene

My suggestion for future posts is to provide your commentary but leave the motive of others alone. You really can't speak with any knowledge about what others may do with their dealings for CKD. I'm not fooling myself. I don't break my meal plan, or change my exercise regimen. Holidays are not an excuse for going off plan. You are welcome to disagree with anything someone posts, just please refrain from the snide, negative remarks. Have a nice day.

Hi bc1164,

The last thing you should be doing to yourself is beating yourself up. You have been through a lot and you are a warrior. So take pride in yourself and your ability to survive. As far as having slips up: life is what happens when you are living. Don't let the small stuff get you down. In truth, the chemicals and harmones from being stressed out are worse for you then a couple of overindulgent meals. You already are back on track. Good for you. I hope you get the support you need to help with your family issues.

Hello, I have to say I too am guilty of falling off the wagon over the festive period and I didn't have any family problems like you have had. It’s so hard when everyone else is eating and drinking what they like. And of course its not like we get an immediate detectable bad reaction like we would have by shooting ourselves in the foot although metaphorically that is exactly what we've done.

But the blood test does not lie and my end of year lapse certainly had a negative impact on my bloods when I was tested on 4th Jan. It was a wakeup call for me and I got right back on my renal friendly diet and many of my numbers bounced back by my last test on 18th Jan.

None of us are perfect and we cant change the past although we can all learn from it. So, we are where we are. Just put it behind you and start again.

Good luck to you and we are all here to support you.

Well I've completely lost my mind over this and feel like giving up. We are semi-elderly and I am CKD-3, I hope, as my last GFR was 50 something. I don't know where iodine comes from if not iodized salt. Oh wait. it's in fish. SO THAT's why people say to eat fish twice a week! What I wouldn't give for a simple MENU to follow that would add up each week to the right amount of omega 3, carotinoids, vitamin-D etc. the right foods! I'm past looking at charts to see how much potassium is in foods or worrying about phosphorus foods; I can never remember what I have read. I don't think I'm supposed to worry about this because my RENAL DIETITIAN gave me a picture of a dinner plate divided into the correct percentages but was lenient on portion sizes. Our Fridge is covered with Davita literature and lists of high and low foods, but there's still no practical synthesis of information. I bought a cookbook and a scale to weigh my protein, but- do I weigh the chicken before I cook it or afterwards? I've even tried to go vegetarian, but as another gentleman said, he couldn't figure out a meal for dinner. Can someone explain why we should not use oil? I did clean out my pantry completely at one time, but food became so boring for my husband. I have celiac, and after years of Iron Will in which no wheat touched my lips while the whole world dined on Pizza and pastries; there was almost nothing (good) to eat (for years!) until glutino and gluten freeda brands. It's just that, at my age I lack the wits to put it all together. To forge a kidney diet for us, and he is equally helpless to guide me. I would pay money for a good 2 week breakfast, lunch and dinner CKD-3 menu with the sodium, potassium, phosphorous and protein already worked out. I glimpsed a health unlocked heading a couple months back where people were being thanked for volunteering their recipes, but could never find the thread again. If you don't mind Bassetmommer,I'd like to read that. I can follow a recipe and eat the proper portion size. I can get the cheese out of my house once again (but he misses it a lot) How do you handle cooking in mixed households anyone? His GFR is 88!

Thank you for being so kind and listening to my rant! I enjoy reading everyone's thoughts and I learn something each time I drop in on the blog. This is a very loving and respectful community. We are blessed.

I feel the same as you! If someone would just say eat this, eat that, I could do it. I managed really well when I had my kidney app but the drug company discontinued it and I’ve struggled ever since. I also feel bad when some of the food doesn’t turn out so well, as my husband still has to eat too!
