Have you gone to your regular doctor about the leg cramping? Maybe he could give you more answers. If not I’d consider changing nephrologist. Someone is bound to be able to help you with that. Prayers😀

Often, topical, over-the-counter meds can help with the legs. I used to have severe problems and they have been mostly alleviated since I began using Penetrex. I have seen various different meds that do the same thing mentioned in ads.

Kingfisher,

The first thing I would suggest is find another doctor, preferably one who is a nephrologist or kidney specialist. Your leg situation might very well be related to your kidney issues. If your potassium is off or you are dehydrated or have an electrolyte imbalance or even nephropathy; these things could be the cause the symptoms your are experiencing. I am not diagnosing, but suggesting. If you are not sleeping well because you dance all night with your legs, you will be tired. My husband suffers from issues with his legs too. BUT, there is a chance also you might have anemia, which is pretty common with CKD. You need clarification from a medical professional based on your personal labs to figure this out. Before you take any supplements, ask your doctor. But many folks use a tad bit of melatonin to help sleep.

Your doctor is as uneducated as mine is. I'm switching. I've been battling with restless legs and hives after taking every medication prescribed for pain (I have spinal issues). She hasn't yet realized that those are symptoms of stage 3 kidney disease. Now that my blood test showed her this, she still hasn't connected the dots. My chlorestol is high so she prescribed a statin....nope, couldn't tolerate any of them. This is really frustrating. I can't even take something for a headache with out bruising, hives or restless legs all night long. My GFR is 50.

It amazes me that getting answers from doctors is like pulling teeth!

My kidney doctor told me to use a certain product for leg cramps. I can't tell you what to take, because I am not a doctor, but ask your physicians. In my recovery many weird things happen and I have to get help, then they go away and something else pops up. So I understand, but there are answers out there.
