PD training is where the staff at a Dialysis Center trains you on how to do Peritoneal Dialysis, whether using a cycler or manually. If you would like to learn more about the various modalities for dialysis there is a ton of information on the internet that you can learn which is best for you. While the training is a number of weeks long, you will not be cleared to do it by yourself away from the center until the staff is certain you can handle it safely and know what to do in all situations. You should also be provided with emergency contacts to call if you have problems. Hope this answers your question.

Hi,

CAPD was my initial form of dialysis,

First you will need a tenchoff catheter procedure, a short procedure to have a tube inserted into the peritoneum.

Training for me and my wife was for two sessions about 1hour. Easy to learn. The key is scrupulous cleaning and hygiene to avoid infection(peritonitis) being the worst. Follow your renal unit protocols and should be good.

When I started at home my renal nurse came to make sure all was ok.

Worked really well for me and is easy to carry out.

Best wishes

Philip
