That's a milestone for you!

Depends if you're needling yourself or having it done for you. If it's being done for you, just keep an eye on the site, it will be well taped up. Let your carer know how you feel, especially if you start to feel dizzy, sick or faint.

If you are doing it yourself, you will be well guided. The team showed me several times before I tried myself and were there for any problems I had.

Most of all, ask lots of questions, the more we know, the better able we are to be an active part of our treatment and wellbeing.

Good luck and very best wishes,

Mgt

Make sure they are gentle and careful, they infiltrated my fistula so many times in the begining that I had to have a catheter placed in my chest for dialysis. Don't let them force the issue, if there is a problem getting the needles in, make sure the Dr. is notified asap. Also I agree with what Mgt8 said, be aware of your own body and if you notice anything feeling out of the ordinary let them know right away so they can make adjustments in how much fluid they are taking off, or need to put back on. For me it has been a very fine line. Also be aware that you may feel very tired after for a while. I am told this is normal, though I did not like it. Good luck.
