Can mild kidney scarring cause pain.

Ct/Kub/Contrast shows mild scarring on both kidneys.

Could that be the cause of ongoing kidney pain. Pain is worse sitting and I find the car seat aggrevates it. I had a kidney stone blockage of the Urethra two years ago, which caused a blood infection, after stent removal pain continued.

I presume this was the cause of a change in kidney function 67/33%

Bloods/urine are ok.

It is not my place to diagnose, but I would suggest talking to your doctor. Kidney pain MAY indicate a stone. Also make sure you keep hydrated. There are many things such as infection that MIGHT be causing pain. So get thyself to the doctor and see if they will run an ultrasound.

The CT/KUB/contrast shows no sign of stones. Pain was worse after the Scan, I presume it was due to the die. Doctor said the scarring explains the ongoing flank pain but from what I have read mild kidney scarring does not seem to cause pain. Last time I had the ultrasound I got the all clear , a month later I had 6mm stone blocking the urethra. It still feels like the stent is still there but it was removed two years ago.

Scan only showed a few small cysts.

I had posted something the other day.....my nephrologist said that kidneys themselves do not cause pain. But if there is a blockage, stone, infection - that can cause pain. I agree with Bassetmommer, you need to get to the doctor. Scarring in the abdominal cavity can cause some pain, but not in the kidney unless there is a blockage.

Yes, I think the Doctor was just trying to come up with a reason for the pain, as previously he mentioned referring me to a pain specialist but I find even using Tylenol effects my kidneys. Flank pain started after Radical Prostatectomy and pyelonephritis. I presume mild scarring is not an issue unless it's effecting function? ..GFR 64. CT Scan did mention borderline coarsening of the bony trabecular pattern in the lower lumbar and pelvis but previous nuclear scan was clear for pagets.

I wonder is it urethra nerve damage? My understanding is they pushed the stone to one side in the urethra so that the stent could drain the kidney infection as I was in septic shock just prior to the procedure. A month later they removed the stent and stone; That was 2 years ago but it feels like the stone or stent is still there.
