U scope, Lasar, Basket, Stent, RGP's and possible bx Outpatient surgery 90 minutes

Hello fairly new here, this is the name of the outpatient surgery they want to do. I have read that the kidney stent can be real painful. Does anyone know what all this means?

What is RGP's? Is bx an abbreviation for biopsy?

I'm not diabetic. I am a female with 22 BMI, so not obese, do not have high blood pressure and imaging does not show any stones. Just had gallbladder taken out last month. Kinda' scared of going under anesthesia again so soon. Also very scared of more pain... since I cannot tolerate nsaids or pain meds.

Anyone have any of this done? Also, should I be going to a nephrologist rather than a urologist? I am planning on getting a second opinion before doing it, but would love to hear your experiences. Thank you all... this is a great forum. Red

These are questions you need to be asking the doctor that suggested this outpatient surgery. If you have a kidney stone they usually use a laser and sometimes need a basket to retrieve the stone. I have no idea what an RPG is? If you have a kidney stone, sometimes they have to place a stent in the ureter to keep it open, especially if it was damaged from the stone. A kidney stent is NOT real painful...causes some cramping when it is placed. If you have a stone they will want to do a biopsy of the stone, to determine what caused it...so doesn't' happen again.

When I had my kidney transplant a stent was placed in the ureter leading to my bladder. It was to keep it open with my new kidney. After awhile it was removed. When the doctor did this.....no anesthesia of anything,....minor cramping as he went into bladder to remove. No big deal...

All of this needs to be asked by you to your urologist that wants to perform this procedure? What is your problem that he wants to do this?

You need answers? What is going on that brought you to this doctor?

Believe me, I always ask and he didn't say it was to remove a kidney stone. I do not have kidney stones. The problems are: I have been there 5 times and it takes at least 4 hours out of my work day and I have no answers yet, going there since March! I have asked to have visits combined together, but NO, they cannot do that. Plus, this dr is old school arrogant, when you ask questions. He doesn't like it when I ask questions and the main thing is: The gastro referred me for the LEFT kidney and he is wanting to run that test on my RIGHT kidney. If it is for a biopsy, it should be on the left.

I have had a solid mass since January in my left kidney! I am a stage 4 cancer survivor and I will be seeing my oncologist for test nterpattations. I have already wasted 5 months wondering what this solid mass is in my kidney. I have had four surgeries in the past 8 months, so I do not want to go through anything that does not answer the question; what is this Upper left solid renal mass and is it growing? If necessary, I will ask them to refer me to a local doctor. There are lots of urologists in my city.

If any else wonders about what uscope and stent are; I have researched it - this is a scope that goes in the ureter and it is used to put stents in for people that have compressed or narrow ureters. Then in another operation, if they find stones they can take them out with a laser and it drains out through the stent. The stent widens the ureter and keeps it more open. It also makes women incontinent while it's in; which he actually did tell me. Other women that have had it tell me it was real painful except for the one above, which may not have had narrow ureters... I know I have pedatric sized, because other tests they have run, they tell me that.

Again, I am asking if anyone on here has had this done... please share with me or private message. I hope all is going well for you and thanks for your reply.
