Hi and Welcome,

I also found out I had CKD when I was told I was Stage 3. After obtaining records and other reports I found I had been at Stage 2 for about a year with 3 different doctors not saying a word. In the almost 5 months since then, I've done a lot of research and found out as much as I could to help slow down the progression.

First, at your earliest convenience check out this website, davita.com You will find along the menu bar and a drop-down on Recipes. Many various meals and information oh preparing them. Many are seasonal. When you get your actual lab values look for the areas of potassium, protein, phosphorus, calcium, and sodium. The ones too high are the ones you need to be careful with. Don't cut out anything because the body needs some of each of those things, but not in excess. The DaVita recipes give you a breakdown of each meal and allow you to control your intake.

Also, on the DaVita site, you can register for a free Kidney Smart class in your area. This will give you lots of needed information and allow you to formulate questions for your next visit with the doctor.

Also, try drugs.com You can check any medications you currently take for any other issue and see if they present a problem with someone with CKD. Sometimes it's just the dosage that is too high. I've found medications that were prescribed for me and some others that are too strong a dose. My GFR went from a 32 to a 51 when I made the changes and had the dosages adjusted. It's still Stage 3 but it gives me a bit more breathing room to deal with any other issues that may arise before I have to seriously consider dialysis.

Not knowing your age and other lab values, I'd be hesitant to suggest anything that is over the counter, including vitamins. Anything you currently take should be run past your doctor to be sure it's okay for your situation. You may or may not need extra Iron for Anemia. I take a vitamin for that along with a daily vitamin for someone my age. That's just an example so check with your PCP and also ask for a referral to see a Nephrologist (Kidney Specialist). Having a primary Doctor who will do that is a plus for putting together a health care team that understands you are in control and make the final decision after receiving their input.

Learn as much as you can and come back here to share and ask questions. Lots of great folks here can and will share what they know with you.

My Dr said I’m mild as well and no need to make any changes at this point. I’m stage 3, I got another Dr to review my labs and she said the same thing Told me no red meat or soda which I don’t eat/drink anyway. I still watch what I eat though.

I was diagnosed at stage 3b by my Primary Doctor who put me on a renal diet. Looking back at GFR levels for past 5 years, before diagnosed, the kidney disease was progressing but nothing mentioned until got a new Doctor. This appears to be the story of many. Since the diet the progression of CKD has slowed down. My Primary Doctor has specialty in chronic diseases. This web site will give you support on your CKD journey.
