I am 63 and have had pain issues (mostly back) and have undergone 3 spine surgeries, 2 foot and 1 thyroidectomy within 5 yrs. My md's have tried so hard to relieve my pain, but in the process my kidneys are failing from all the meds. I noticed my numbers didn't look great a long time ago before I was diagnosed only about a month ago with ckd 3b with a gfr of 30. I want to reduce the many meds I take and a pharmacist helped me some, but my md's don't seem to agree on what is ok and what is not. I have reduced them on my own and with doctors' suggestions. I switched from Fentanyl and Norco to only Naltrexone but was advised this is not good either. Only recently have I been able to do regular exercise as walking is difficult, but am a healthy weight. After a very active life with family and 2 jobs, I am mostly a homebody now but trying to do activities more outside the home when I can drive. Any ideas?

I'm sorry you are in so much pain. That must be draining on you both mentally and physically. I don't know anything about your medications, but I'm wondering if yoga and or meditation/hypnosis might help. There are lots of free videos on YouTube for both. I like Yoga with Adriene. I think she has some for pain management. If she doesn't, I know there are some on there that do address that and are very mild yoga practices. There are also meditations for pain management. I often listen to them at night while I'm sleeping. They help reprogram your brain to view pain differently. I guess it can't hurt, so maybe worth a shot? I hope you start feeling better soon.
Also, I hope your doctor has discussed diet changes for CKD with you. If not, go to Davita.com and you can find out lots of information regarding this. You might also want to work with a dietician. Certain foods cause more inflamation, so elimination those foods also might help with reducing the pain.
