A rollercoaster ride ... ironically

I wasn’t able to go on a ride the other day because the bar wouldn’t come down securely enough and I was honestly so numb and mortified.

I think every single day that I want to shed the weight and even went out yesterday and bought loads of good greens and had a good breakfast and lunch and came home and just ate a ludicrous amount of calories.

I know with every kg I gain that it’s more I will have to lose ... just really losing hope but I just don’t recognise who I am in the mirror anymore.

Has anyone got any tips?

I’ve also tried numerous times the week 1 c25k but can’t get through a whole run comfortably and b.) the idea of going out on my own is just horrendous.

Did anyone else go through anything similar who was very overweight?

I know what The problem is, I’m just struggling to fix it. I have another surge of motivation post eating so much rubbish.

There's actually too many tips to give you all in one go and you'll probably end up swamped :)

It's based on calorie counting but it is not strict and gives us a chance to actually achieve our aims without starving ourselves.

To acquire a calorie range tailored specifically for you, you will need to run the NHS BMI calculator...

Don't ever loose hope and don't give in, somethings take a while to fall into place. Making small changes will soon add up to bigger changes. I would suggest that you don't have any temptation in the house then you won't be able to fall apart at the end of the day. Maybe you are eating a 'ludicrous' amount of calories at the end of the day because you are hungry?

Why not put your meal plan on to the Daily Diary thread and let us see what you are eating - we will be better able to advise you. You may need to add some protein or some fats into your meals to help to satiate you so you feel less hungry.

Are you eating at the right calorie level - have you checked your own personal calorie allowance range on the NHS BMI calculator. If so what is the range and what are you aiming for each day - you should be aiming for the top of the range, or just slightly under.

Instead of worrying about the running, why not just go for a 30 minute walk a day until you feel fitter - or you could try doing the Leslie Sansone 15 minute happy walk in your own living room - have a look on youtube?

To help lift your mood and change your mind set, why not take a look at the Happiness Celebration hosted by HealthyTanja , it is not for everybody - but take a look. I found it really helpful when I first started here, I found 'me' again. It made me look at things from a different perspective and helped me to become more focused.

One last thing - ditch the mirror's - your weight doesn't define you - your personality does - you may not look like the you, you remember from years ago - but your still in there, it's just a matter of finding 'you' again - try being kind to yourself and you will find 'you' all the quicker :)

Many people have said the week 1 runs on couch to 5k are too long for them, you can add in a pre-week 1 of just running for 20 seconds each time (just count to 20 slowly then walk the rest). Do this part as gradually as you like until you can manage the week 1 proper. Remember the "running" part of couch to 5k isn't meant to be fast running, speed comes later. Not necessarily faster than walking even. Just beginning to teach your muscles to do a running motion. Then gradually adding a little more each week - that's the magic :)

As for going out on your own is it because you don't want to be seen doing this on your own? I started doing c25k very early in the mornings down a stretch of canal path that was absolutely deserted. No hiding the beetroot face every time heading back home though... hope that helps. You can do this :)

I will try this , there is almost a safety fear as well which is almost unfound because I live in such a lovely safe place . It’s more embarrassment and when I stop I feel like I’m being watched or I gave up ... so I go faster and then can’t recover in 60 seconds. I will try again till something works.

The embarrassment feeling totally goes. Just keep asking yourself what would you think if you came across someone doing exactly what you're doing. All you'd have would be thoughts of encouragement and admiration I'm sure :)

Hi unhealthymedic_, welcome to the site.

How long did it take to get to where you are? Bet it wasn't overnight, well, same goes for getting back to where you want to be, no magic button we can press, it won't disappear with a wave of a wand, it'll take commitment and dedication for months, a year or more maybe. There are some on the site who have been on this journey for many years and have the lost the weight, but are still here because it helps them maintain and because it's a pretty darned friendly site considering some of the stuff you can find on the net.

Will it be hard? Yes....

Will you have to change? Yes

Can you do it? Yes, any of us can with the right mind set, eating habits and support. And to be honest, we're all mostly here due to our habits, we eat too much, or comfort binge, or use food to react to emotions, or are stuck in jobs where it's tough to eat well so we eat rubbish fast food.

It's not rocket science, it's a balancing act, food as fuel, not as a crutch. That's not to say you can't enjoy a slap up meal, of course you can, you just have to balance it out by cutting back a little the rest of the week or doing some extra exercise.

You can do it - small steps are more achievable :) Don't pressure yourself too much, I always find if I try to restrict myself or put too much pressure on achieving a goal it suddenly becomes a lot harder to achieve. I'm first goal here is try and lose 1 pound. it's not much but if I can lose 1 pound then I can lose another. Don't give up x

My heart goes out to you. You do all the right things and then sabotage yourself.

You say you know what the problem is, so I wonder are you in a position to get professional help?

Weight loss is a simple equation of eating less so the body gets a chance to use up it's stores.

I'm not saying it's easy ... It takes planning and consistency.

Never give up on yourself.

It’s almost ironic - I know the medical professional advice when dishing it out but it’s almost a different case when taking it yourself. I think I will though, thank you x. It’s a horrible self sabotage

You can do this. I to have mastered the art of eating well all day then blowing it by eating far to much in the evening. I got stopped from going on a roundabout ride with my daughter because i was to heavy. The only thing i did after that was ate to much because i felt so rubbish. Set yourself small realistic targets when you start meeting them you will be surprised at how quickly your mood lifts and motivation returns. Your not alone there are plenty of people on here to support you. Good Luck

It’s so tough. I had been exactly what you describe for 25 years. And I think at age 52 I might finally have nailed it. Maybe hormones play a part ... ? The first thing, for me, is recognizing the unbelievable pleasure of feeling better. Feeling healthy is the best base for life. Nothing is really nice when you don’t feel good. So... for me, it was counting calories. All diets are just versions of that. I looked back to what I used to eat and how I lived when I was young - and the size I was supposed to be for my body build and shape. I weighed every single thing I ate for the first week and logged in ‘my fitness pal’. I also put my weight in. I did every day which worked for me. When the graph eventually started going down I’d take it out just to look at it. That provides real motivation. I find if I drink water (even 2 fingers worth) first thing in the morning I drink more easily throughout the day. And then I get so many less food cravings. When those cravings come I couldn’t control them. And now I have less and less of them. It’s such a freedom. I absolutely love it.

I actually did do this last summer and It worked to some extent. I have been logging again and will try again. I’m honestly just leaving my teens and really don’t want to induct a life of this. Thanks so much

I started my regime May 4th. I logged and weighed for maybe 6 weeks and now I know I’m my head what’s what. I still weigh myself regularly. If I find I gain a little too much I’ll go back to logging and weighing everything. But no way would I do it all day every day for ever.
