Hi all, New on here and thought I'd say hello. I'm almost 50 and I'm fed up with being over weight. Thought it's time I did something about it as I feel so yuk all the time. As you'd expect at my age I've a few health issues (apart from being about 4.5 stone overweight !!) I've got an under active thyroid and CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) both of which I think are partly responsible for the weight gain . Also have depression which has made it hard to motivate. Enough of the reasons though I need to make changes literally my life could depend on it if I dont at least make a start...Tbh I'm so miserable like this, it's making me afraid to do the things I love like dog agility. Too embarrassed to compete and that's the goal I've set ..lose the weight and compete in agility at the serious competitions. Did anyone else set a goal and struggle ? If so what did you do to get past it? This isn't my 1st attempt & I know how hard it's going to be.

Hi Hidden

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Rose

Welcome to the forum don't despair it won't be so hard will everyone's support and encouragement There are the most loveliest people on here it's definitely changed my life it be a part of it

Sorry to hear about your health problems It will be great to lose weight and see your CFS improve

If you are suffering from depression the Happiness Challenge is a fantastic thing to join in with I was very low until I joined it and it's been amazing You don't have to make a long term commitment you can try it for a week or two see if it helps It's on the pinned posts everyday

As you love your dog agility put a little note in your kitchen that you want to get back to doing it It will motivate you and be a goal

You can do it I've lost 20lbs so far and I'd been feeling so fed up and despairing of losing any weight

Keep posting and keep us posted

Wishing you all the very best 😊

Oh wow 20lbs that's fantastic ..well done you. Thank you for your post it's very encouraging, I will definitely do the note in the kitchen suggestion..great idea. I do despair of trying to aim for goals because I always seem to fail which makes me feel worse about myself ..like a vicious circle!! As things stand right now I've 2 choices I either give up and find myself back in the dark lonely place I've already been or I fight my way back to having a life worth waking up to and being happy , I've so much to live for and I think I sometimes lose sight of what's really important. Tomorrow's the start of my new future , my new positive way of looking at things. I'm also going to take your advice and sign up to the challenge you mentioned. Thanks again

Yes that's so true that you have 2 choices I wrote all the horrible things about being overweight really was brutal and critical of myself wrote how it made me feel to have people make comments about my weight it was miserable reading Then I wrote all the good things about losing weight and it was a no brainier which person I'd a rather be and it's only me who can do this no one else and no more making excuses there were no excuses I also found a photo of me that I hated and looked through magazines for clothes I'd love to wear and I started on my journey it seemed such a huge thing to do My goal was 28lbs and I wasn't hopeful but now I feel fantastic I'm nearly there no going back ever now I feel I have a whole new wardrobe of clothes as I feel great in the things that used to feel tight and mumsy

No going back to a dark and lonely place it's a new start and new beginning for you Once those first few pounds come off you will never look back You will also get weeks were you won't lose but I've found that's usually b followed by a good loss

Take it baby steps and you will do it make your goal 7lbs for now and then once another comes off and that's a stone there will be no stopping you

I hate to think of you feeling so down so I'm keeping everything crossed for you xxx
