I have tried to lose weight many times but I just can not stop eating

I never seem to get full. My stomach can take up to 3 -4 big meals at each meal time

Hi,

Maybe you need to shift your focus away from 'Trying to Eat Less'

I will try to suggest a few ideas...

Can you find some time to take walk / jog in a nearby park?

Can you empty your house of all the biscuits and other junk which tempts you?

Things you can try to reduce food consumption... These have been tried and tested.

1. Drink a glass of water every hour... Drink half a glass before a meal.. Drink few sips between each new helping.

2. Take a minute pause before taking next helping... during this breathe slowly.

3. Take less in your plate... Just 1/4 of your plate should have food at a time.. first finish that.. pause and then take next helping.

4. One hour before every meal time eat a fruit / fruit salad / veg salad or soup.

5. Try this amazing way to eat well and eat healthy. .. zenhabits.net/what-is-mindf...

All the best

Riyaz,

Always there to help

Hi,

when we eat a lot our stomachs will rise to the challenge and stretch to accommodate the food. Happily, when we start to eat less our stomachs get used to smaller portions too.

We also need to remember that being hungry is ok. Our hunger does not need to be assuaged immediately. It does us no harm to be hungry for a while especially if it isn't a meal time.

We each have to decide whether or not losing weight is more important than eating whatever we want. Fine, everyone can have a bad day, but the basic decision has to be made. Is losing weight important enough to you for you to change the way you are eating? If not, then I'd say don't try half-heartedly then say the diet doesn't work: wait until a time when you are ready.

Thank you for the "Nudge" needed that

Glad it wasn't too harsh: it was said in a kind way but you can't read that in a message like this. Good luck if you decide to go ahead and I'll look forward to hearing about your ups and downs and getting some tips.

There is nothing wrong with eating big meals and you need to eat to lose weight..... you just need to be eating the right type of foods.

Here is an example of a typical day for me..

breakfast - bacon & egg

snack - 8 strawberries

lunch - large bowl of chicken salad

snack - banana

dinner - Large bowl of homemade beef stew.

it's taken me a long time to stop thinking that I have to starve myself to lose weight and that I actually have to EAT to lose!

Sounds like a lovely menu Claz. Do you count calories or have you just worked out what you body needs?

I dont count calories... I'm just trying to eat healthier without thinking how much is this & that !

Just try eating less for a week or so. It won't be fun and you will feel hungry BUT your appetite will change. Difficult to believe but it's true. Now, after about 10 weeks of eating more healthily I really can't manage the size of meals I was eating before.

Yes it is hard to believe, bur I believe everything here as they are all tried and tested thanks

Try eating plenty of fresh veg with your meals. If you chew them properly it will take time and give your brain the opportunity to tell your stomach that you are full. Drinking water is good. Try flavouring it with lemon (I have a slice of lemon in hot water for the first doing every day), few sprigs of mint, slices of cucumber etc. Really enjoy your water, so nice glass and allow time, it is so good for your body.

I have made a mixed fruit salad which I will have with me instead of getting temped

I like the taste of water it is just drinking enough of it

thanks

Hi and welcome, pettysang :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Have a look at the 12 week plan, as many people have been successful following it. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

I understand. I seldom "feel full" I just quit eating. the thing I do is make a plate, put everything away, then eat what is on my plate and stop. I had to retrain my brain to realize when my stomach was full then stop eating. the other thing I do is eat very slowly and chew so thoroughly that I almost think I will never finish with one bite. the longer it takes you to eat a meal, the better off you will be. I promise
