Around the world in 80 days - please post your kms/steps/miles for Sunday 31 January (Part 2)

Dear Travellers,

Its been non-stop since we arrived in Hongkong this morning. We took a Star ferry across Victoria harbour, visited the giant Tian Tan Buddha statue at Po Lin monastery, walked up to the Victoria Peak and now we are browsing the Temple Street Night Market. Tonight we are going to Yung Kee for Cantonese dim sum and onto Lan Kwai Fong's karoke bars for vodka jellies and a group renditon of Wogan's Floral Dance.

Hongkong holds fond memories for me. This was my first stop of my very own solo round the world trip back in October 1997. I loved HK - stayed with a friend of my sister's. Remember going to see the big gold Buddha and feeling very hungover - too many vodka jellies the night before :D :D :D

Happy Travels everyone :) :)

  • Oh I've always wanted to go back to HK, and here we are !!!πŸ˜ƒ

Today 3.5kms, I'm feeling a bit 'cream crackered', not sure if it was too much Ricky Martin or maybe not enough !! Lol

    Early to bed for me,

    night night πŸ˜‡

  • You do so much walking Flossie, that I'm not at all surprised you're cream crackered! I'll get Ricky to come and tuck you in :D

  • I've been on the Star Ferry - cost a penny to go first class if I recall correctly !! I was wondering why I didn't remember seeing the Buddha, but it appears it was only built in 1990, which explains why it wasn't there :-)

My Floral dance is coming along very well - although I suspect a few vodka jellies would improve it !

Quiet day today and since I have to drag a 9 year old with me at the moment to go for a walk, we only managed 3.7k (although it was through the woods, so the dog probably managed double that). However, I have been tracking my own walking and running kms for the month of January and my total has been 290k ! That's just dog walks and runs, not measuring my steps or anything ! This challenge has certainly motivated me so thanks both Lizzy and moreless for such brilliant effort in arranging it all :-D :-D

  • I went on the Star Ferry numerous time Lucca, but my memory isn't up to yours, because I have absolutely no idea how much it cost! :) I didn't get to see the gold Buddha either :)

Don't vodka jellies improve everything? ;)

I'm staggered with the number of K's that everyone is clocking up. I'm now doing more in a day, than I was doing in a week! Who'd have thought it?! I'm full of bright ideas, but it was Liz's genius that made it happen so spectacularly :)

  • Lizzy - I've been so out of things this past week and been like an annoying hitch-hiker who's told the same stories three times now. But I promise next week will be different - I WILL pull my weight :) After yesterday's run AND cycle, I'm determined to contribute more kms this week. Nothing to report for today. But I absolutely pledge I'll have either a run or a cycle to report tomorrow. Even if it rains, hails, blizzards, whatever. Happy travels :)

  • "like an annoying hitch-hiker who's told the same stories three times now"

    Thats funny :)

  • I was going to say like an annoying hitch-hiker who ate all the biscuits. But I haven't eaten any biscuits :D

  • Good - keep away from that biccy tin - you've got some lbs to shift now ;-) :-)

  • I have absolute faith in you Ruth and I'll keep my fingers crossed for fine weather for you :)

  • Thanks, and I'll do the same for you - it's merely damp here, whereas I'm led to understand your lot are contending with some proper weather that's slightly more worth complaining about!

  • It has been pretty grim and apparently we're in line for a bigger and better storm tomorrow! :o

  • Lovely picture Lizzy,

Sorry still ill, 2.2 km total, can't wait to get moving again, but at the moment still tired, washed out and aching 😞

  • You have nothing to apologise for Elissy, you've earned the right to rest and recuperate :)

  • Thanks 😊

  • My brother lived in hk for a few years so I visited it a lot. Loved it.

  • It was a fab place, Aqua, but I expect it's changed beyond all recognition to me :)

  • They love changing it. They are always ripping something down and putting something taller in its place.

  • It was the really dodgy bamboo scaffolding that got me, especially in typhoon season! :o

  • I worked in HK many moons ago as a young man and I also remember being hung over more than once in that city :)

    5 km's

  • How fantastic Dave, when was that? It was the breakfast runs that were the killer! ;)

    Great number :)

  • A day of freezing cold fog and miserly rain = 2100 steps pottering. Hope to be back up to 10,000 tomorrow!

  • I'm surprised you even felt like pottering Saga, with ghastly weather like that! :)

  • 6799 steps / 4.59km

  • Well done Paja :)

  • 10.9km

  • Well done 😊

Hopefully with the enforced rest my shin will be up to little jogs soon 😊

  • Yes I'm sure it won't be long before you're able to run. Best to ensure you're fully recovered.

    Hope you're getting better.

  • Thank you 😊

  • Great number K_o_g! :)

  • 7:9km:)

  • Good show Cazmaz :)

  • Hi Cazmaz, have you done anything since sunday? :)

  • Hey moreless apologies I've been up to my eyes and not had time to log on!

    Monday 12:2km

    Tuesday 10:4km

    Wednesday 6:3km

    Thursday 5:6km

Will get back to daily logging tomorrow!

  • That's great Cazmaz, but you've very cleverly given us tomorrow's K's??!! :D

  • Hahaha!!! Nothing like forward planning...sorry, cancel Thursday's ones till Thursday is over! I don't even know how or why I've recorded that! The rest are fine :) think I'm away with the fairies on my pain killers for back pain! Lol xx

  • LOL! It's the promise of things to come :)

  • 3000 for me Lizzy! xx

  • Well done Runningsoon :)

  • 2.53km for Sunday

  • Good job jenni :)

  • Hi jenni, is everything ok, because we haven't heard from you since sunday :)

  • Yes thank you life just getting in the way. We have visitors this week and between work, visitors, Wedding planning and an ill relative. I'm struggling to get time to post and get confused with all the different parts. I will put them all on today and hopefully will get back into it this weekend.

  • Thank goodness it's just normal stuff and nothing serious :)

  • An active day for me today: 19.5 cycle, 6.7 walk- total 26.2km.

Very sad about Terry- I've been listening to him on the radio for much of my life. Looking forward to our tribute floral dance later!

  • Woohoo Phil! Fandabedozy! :)

It's tragic, he was a national treasure!

  • 4.59km today

  • Well done Paja :)

  • Oh fizzyliz! What a fabulous description! Capped off with the flippin floral dance song- that made me chuckle! This is making me realise that I haven't done nearly enough real world travelling! πŸ˜€

Anyway up, today I logged up 7.9km walking and 7.2km running- my all time record most running btw!- making a total 15.1km πŸ˜€

  • Woohoo rainshine! Another one that beats their pb! WTG you! :)

  • Hi Lizzie and all. As so often happens i had a very lazy sunday. 2.5k racked up in stroll to farmers market.

Hope you all had a great weekend

  • Lucky you! I've forgotten what a lazy Sunday's like :o

You're never lazy Gonti, you just need a breather every now and again :)

  • Hello Everyone, busy day today but very enjoyable. My kms for 31st are 1.17.

  • Well done Marianne :)

  • Thank you moreless, hoping to increase kms next week with more activity. Have a good weigh in Everyone and a terrific week.

  • Hi FizzyLiz :-) you changed your name, I like the new one :-)

km's for Sunday are walking 4.5 kms and running 6.51 kms :-)

  • Busy sunday for you then T1 :)

  • it has been a busy one moreless :-)

  • Me too :D

  • I'm exhausted just reading that!!

Back on the home front a more relaxing day. Still managed two walks but the snow was still thick on the moor. Today's effort 11056 steps, 7.4 kms. Really want to get my steps up to the 10000. Will try harder next week.

Good luck to all who are weighing in tomorrow πŸ‘

  • But 11056 is more than 10000 steps Bu-dog, so you've already surpassed your goal :)

Thanks for the good luck, I have a feeling I'm going to need it :)

  • Actually meant really want to get my mileage up to 10 kms lol!

  • Aaaah! Now it makes sense :D

  • Either I haven't moved at all today or my jawbone isn't working?? Nothing for today 😳x sorry x

  • Not even a trip to the loo??! Good grief! :D

Sounds like that jawbone needs sorting out Claire :)

  • I know I've been lazy but I have got up once or twice!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚x

  • Either that, or you have very full Billy Connelly rubber knickers! :D

  • πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ its the jawbone honest 😳😳!!

  • :D :D :D

  • 3.8 miles for me today. That's just walking around doing my day no long walks as its been torrential rain all day. Amazing how far you walk just doing everyday things but only 6,732 steps.

  • You must have been dashing around the house like a whirling dervish Florence :)

  • Blimey Florence that's impressive - what kind of pedometer are you using?

(my walklogger app doesn't seem to work indoors)

  • I wear a Fitbit HR. I wear it all day as it doubles up as a watch. So it records every step I take. They're great. It also tells me how many calories I burn what my heart rate is and monitors my sleep.

  • Been a bit of a slack day. Only 7km

  • Doesn't sound slack to me henlady :)

  • Not much walking action for me today I'm afraid so 2.8 kms

  • All K's are good K's Beryl :)

  • Not sure if I did post yesterday, and cannot find the thread (is it just me or sometimes older posts disappear from the search?!?)

    Sat 12km, sun 12.25km.

This means that I walked a marathon in a week! Yay! (I count only the outdoor walk not having pedometers nor gym, and it has been awful weather, so double yay!!!) in total i did 48.75km...

  • Woohoo diadhuit! WTG you! :)

The easiest way to find the threads, is to go to Lizzy's profile page and all the threads will be there, most recent at the top :)

  • Have you got any K's to log since sunday diadhuit?

  • Let's just call it 1km for Sunday. I didn't have Fitbit on all day, thought I'd have a rest from it the night before then forgot to put it back on until about 10am, so left it off for the day. Loved the balloon ride, and now all new adventures in HK. :)

  • Have you managed to recover from our visit qd? I'm sure Rosie is glad of the peace and quiet :)

  • All good here Moreless, family day yesterday. Rosie loved all the attention she got from everyone, she especially loved playing with Flossie358 & Lot to Lose. Gonti & yourself gave her some fussing too, FizzyLiz as well...she just lapped it all up. She played in her pool on was HOT.

  • I have a great mental image of a rottie in a spotty bikini, paddling :D

  • I've waited patiently to revisit HK and now it feels as if the visit is over in a flash :o

    My totals for today are

    Cycling - 16.2

    Rowing - 0.8

    Total - 17K's :)

  • Crickey! I feel humble! I need to brave cycling to try and catch up! πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ˜€

  • It's not that great rainshine, I don't do it in a oner, just in short sharp bursts through the day :)

  • Are you on an exercise bike at home or out on the roads?

  • I got my bike in the new year and have been able to ride it outside a grand total of 3 times! The rest of the time it's on a stand and is used like an exercise bike :)

  • Sounds perfect- great idea too, able to hop on for the odd 5 mins! I don't have a stand like that which works, since my bro-in-law lent me his stand but my bike has a quick release lever on the wheel... Piggy bank needed! πŸ˜€

  • My bike has a quick release wheel too. Why not try buying just the replacement hub spike thingy, which will allow it to work on the stand.

Sorry, I don't know what it's actually called.

  • I have looked for such stands with no joy, where did you buy yours?

  • I got mine from Halfords.

  • 17 k's moreless is very impressive and so has your journey been so far. There's no stopping you now WTG you :-)

"This girl is on fire" by (Alicia Keys) this song reminds me of you

  • Thanks T1 :)

I can't rest on my laurels now, my journey is just taking off :)

  • Just for you Moreless - we are not getting on the steamer until tomorrow evening :)

Great Ks by the way :D

  • Aw thanks Liz, that'll give me time to explore some of the old haunts :)

  • How could we not be happy Alan? :)

It isn't fair at all, but sometimes life throws us a curve ball and it's down to the character of the receiver as to how it's dealt with. I would say you have real strength of character and are dealing with your curveball with dignity and fortitude :)

  • OMG Alan, that's ridiculous! How has age got anything to do with disability? Don't you even have any family nearby?

  • hi there yes my mum, two brothers, and a sister, but they haven't spoken to me in 15 years this June coming, plus i have a daughter but she hasn't spoken to my since me and her mum got divorced and that was 15, years ago this coming June. and as for my age the doctors have said i can managed by myself at i'm 49 in may and that's why i won't get any help. take care your friend Alan

  • What a very sad story Alan, is there no chance of reconciliation?

  • hi there no there isn't they have made it quite clear. just to let you know i'm not doing to good my nerves and depression are at rock bottom for last two days and i can't think why. please take care speak to you soon i hope. Alan

  • I'm sure that once spring comes, you'll start to feel a lot brighter. Everything seems just that bit gloomier at this time of year.

Chin up, my friend, you will get through this :)

  • Hi 8.07kms for me Sunday.

  • Great number Mimsta :)

  • 5.1 kms walking and 5km cycling today!

  • Fantastic Nussaybah! :)

  • 0.9km today. I am still not well and going back to doctor tomorrow. Have truly indulged myself today.. reading in bed, watching t.v., having a soak in a bubble bath. Hoping to speed up the recovery by slowing down. ☺

  • Oh dear Asics, let's hope the doc can do something for you :)

  • Only 3.5k for me as I've been unwell :(

  • Oh my word! I don't think there's anyone left healthy! :(

Hope you feel better soon RAF_girl :)

  • 2.13 km for me.

  • Well done Don :)

  • 14643 steps = 10.28k for yesterday. The challenge is certainly helping me to keep motivated and keep moving (and I keep beating all my colleagues on our FitBit challenges too. Think they are getting desperate to win now!)

  • That sounds like a win for us Lexi, if they're desperate, they'll work harder, which in turn will make you work harder too :D

  • Morning Travellers

Apologies, for not recording my Saturday or Sunday km's before now. A busy weekend babysitting for our granddaughters restricted any exercise plans.

    Saturday 2.9 km

    Sunday 3.5 km

It's now Monday morning and the 1st Feb, new start and more effort to improve my totals.

    Have a good week everyone.

  • Thanks mrsg and here's to a fantastic week :)

  • Morning all,

loving hong kong always wanted to go. For sunday i did 3.06km walking and 12km cycling so total for the day is 15.06km πŸ˜†

  • Woohoo kars, great total! :)

  • I did 6.2 on Saturday and 2.3 Sunday.

  • Well done Frankie :)

  • Sunday just 1 km for me , still struggling but really do need to get my bum into gear and do more packing or I'll never be moved house at this rate!!

  • Oh crumbs veganista, I do feel for you, I just hate packing! :(

Maybe a new week will bring a new burst of energy and enthusiasm :)

  • Good news moreless I've managed to pack 4 boxes today - hallybloomingloolia!! πŸ˜ƒ

  • Woohoo veganista! Only another 40 to go! :D

  • That's about right lol πŸ˜ƒ it's crazy the amount of stuff I've managed to accumulate in my small one bedroom flat!!

  • Tell me about it! I'm the world's worst hoarder. I hang onto everything "just in case" ! :o

  • Ah that "just incase" I know it well, even though it never actually happens!!

  • Until after 20 years of waiting for "just in case", you throw it out, only for "just in case" to arrive a week later!! :o

  • hi Anita are you sure you wouldn't like a hand take care your friend Alan xx

  • Hi there hun , no I'm ok thankyou im getting there slowly ️xxx

  • hi Anita i'm glad your getting there even though its slowly, i'm having a bad time over the last two days, my nerves and depression are rock bottom, don't know why, ive just dropped like a brick, take care hopefully speak to you when my head is straight big hug for you from me your friend Alan xxxx

  • I'm sorry yr struggling hun I do hope you come back up soon. I've had another chest X-ray and it shows that I've still got the chest infection that I got 3 months ago. Also shows fluid in my lungs. So I've started on the 4 th course of antibiotics and steroids again. Osteo is also bad so I'm in pain with my lungs and hip.

I'm sure we will both be ok again hun.

Take care hugs to you ️xxx

  • hi Anita i'm sorry to hear that your still going through the wars, i thought you would have had that chest infection cleared by now. it just proves our bodies are so weak that we can't get rid of illness like we could 20 years ago, it just proves how imperfect we are now. i'm sending you a big Alan hug to help you, my osteoarthritis is playing up so i know how your feeling there and fluid on your lungs to top it of, are you sure you would like me to come and help you it might cheer us both up. take care my lovely dear friend always Alan xxxx

  • I rather like to think we are perfectly imperfect ( always try to think positive as I l know there is a lot who are far worse off how ever poopy I am)

I do hope you've been a bit brighter today, take care hun hugs ️xxx

  • hi my Anita yes i'm back to normal, whatever normal is i'm there, your right about one thing we are all perfectly imperfect each and everyone of us, there are people worse than what we are and i know it isn't going to get better, not just yet anyway. thank you for your loving concern, i'm finding more diamonds only this forum than in a diamond mine. please have a big hug from me to you my dearest friend your friend always Alan xxxxxx

  • Hi. 2.5k for Sunday as forgot to put on my 'trusty'? pedometer. Still, managed to teach granddaughter how to separate egg yolks from whites, so a good day!

  • I'm not sure that the words trusty and pedometer go together Mrscaw! ;)

It doesn't get much better than cooking with your granddaughter, mine is now an "expert" at veggie omelettes and pizzas, since this weekend :)

  • hi there that sounds tasty veggie omelettes and pizzas wow any spare or all gone, just to let you know ive done 2150 steps today on less than what you have had take care Alan

  • 8.1 km for Sunday.

  • Good job Carpo :)

Will try to post on time this week πŸ˜€

  • Thanks quin, we'll hold you to that ;)

  • 4,230 steps for Sunday. Day off so was walking back and forth round the house 😊

  • Well done Sopmarfree, you didn't get dizzy did you? ;)

  • Hi Sopmarfree, I may be blind, or just daft, but I can't seem to find anything from you since sunday :o

  • Hi all, was the old mans birthday yesterday and I'm still ill so kms for Sunday are me 5.1 and Ed 7.5 :/

  • Well done you two, I hope you enjoyed the jelly and icecream :)

Is there no improvement at all Kate? :o

  • There's a cough/cold doing the rounds - my mum is into wk6!!! Its really draining and I'm FED up. Champing at the bit to get back to c25k but feeling dizzy and to be honest walking is enough in the current gales force wind and rain!

    I will be back ;)

  • I'm sure at least half the travellers have it! 6 weeks??!! OMG! :(

  • 3.85km today no exercise today other than shopping for bar stools, I am surprised how many steps you can do wondering around
