Hello, this is my first post on this forum. I have nebulized the antibiotic colomycin twice a day for well over a year without stopping (treating bronchiectasis). I fairly recently started getting horrific sensations in my body. firstly in my feet, then legs to hands and arms. I am seeing a new consultant in January. In the meantime has anyone on the forum experienced this restless leg syndrome as a result of any medication they are taking? I would be grateful for any information you can offer. .CHRYS

Neuropathy caused by colomycin
Hi,
Please Google the heading + side effects. There are a lot of information.
Hi there. My PN is caused by anti- tnf medication like infliximab. That's a treatment for Crohn disease.
Its a common problem that some medications cause PN.

This made really interesting reading. Thank you Micapathy. I hadn't heard of this study before now and think more people should be aware of it. I have kept a record of it to show to my doctor and consultant.
I stopped using the nebulized colomycin, as instructed back in December. I havent experienced any further neuropathy symptoms since early April. So, was it the colomycin causing it? It certainly looks a possibility but time will tell. Interestingly, another member on Restless Legs Forum who is very knowledgeable about this complaint drew my attention to another medication I was taking -an anti depressant called Citalopram. This particular drug is also known to worsen restless legs (which I thought I had) and should be avoided. This is another drug which I have stopped using.
I know all drugs have possible side effects but it is very useful to furnish ourselves with as much information as possible about our conditions and side effects of the drugs we use.
Many thanks, I appreciate you posting this information.
How long have you had your condition and how did you find the connection between your condition and that particular drug? Fascinating!
😀
The NP is with me for a few years. Its common that when you stop a certain medication that causes the PN, the PN stops after a while.
I have been on Anti-tnf medication for 15 years now and cant stop it since I need it for my Crohn disease.
There where no other obvious reasons why I have / got the PN. Been in contact with an international well known neurologist that has done a lot of research on PN & Crohn disease & Anti-tnf medication.
All the other possible reasons like vitamine B shortage or Diabetes etc have been ruled out by bloodtests.
The manufacturers of the anti-tnf medication write clearly by the side effects : Can cause PN.
There is still a lot unknown by neurologists regarding PN. Its a learning curve !
