I had an appointment with a neurosurgeon yesterday regarding my crabiolasty. I'm a cyclist that was hit my a car 5 months ago and suffered a server brain injury and they had to remove the side of my skull as my brain was swelling due to bruising. I'm in rehab on one side of London and went in a taxi to the other hospital on the otherbside of London and the journey completely wiped me out. Has anyone else found even small tasks tire them out after a brain injury ? Thr good news is that I'll have the surgery around January

Tiredness

Hi, I haven’t had a brain injury but have a spinal cord injury and yes, sometimes the simplest things will wipe me out and then others days I’m bursting with energy. I help at a charity fir people suffering from neurological conditions and speak to a lot of participants who have had brain injuries and many complain of fatigue. It’s very common but poorly understood. You also must remember it’s really early days still . In the world of neuro, you need to think in months and years rather than days and weeks. Good luck for your op in January!
I was told in the beginning that tiredness is a side affect of the brain injury but its as rime has gone one that I've seen how much it cam affect me and how just doing one thing can tire me put even before, it wouldn't have made any difference. It's taken me 3 days to get over one trip to another hospital. Yeah I'm going to look at it in months and years now
Thanks, nervous but I'll be glad to get it done
i haven't had injuries, but i do have a chronic neurological condition. have you heard of spoons? someone on the ms board posted about it. basically, you have so many spoons, where each is a unit of energy. you can use a number of spoons to do a big thing, or one spoon at a time for each little thing, but once you run out of spoons (energy), you're done. there's just nothing left. i've learned to manage my energy, b/c once my spoons are gone, i'm exhausted and have to rest. also, you may have more spoons available on certain days and fewer on others.
I haven't heard of spoons. I'll try that. It's taken me 3 days to get over the tiredness of going to the hospital. I just never knew the tiredness would be this bad
i'm sorry. it's rough. when all this started for me i was in my 20's and had a job working with people twice my age. i couldn't understand why they could do their jobs, go home and take care of kids, go out and party and i was so tired i was nearly crying after just a few hours. it's a tough adjustment, but now that i pace myself, i can actually do more b/c i don't have to lie in bed for 2 days to recover.
I'm still in hospital, I won't be going back to work until the summer at the earliest and I'll be on reduced hours for a while. It just shocked me how a 3 hour task took me 4 days to reviver from. I guess its part of the new normal me and something I'll need to adjust to. How do you get now?
oh, that is me now. i rest before i have appointments or have to go someplace, limit the time out and then rest for 2 days. when it comes to cleaning, say, i'll do part of one room and rotate so i don't overdo it.
