Feeling very, very lucky after baby was in intensive care.....

Hi all, I have been on here for sometime - through my pregnancy and c section and first few months of my beautiful baby boys life. So my baby boy -Louie - came ill with Broncilitis one week before Christmas . His breathing became very rapid and we found ourselves going into hospital. Overnight he got better -on oxygen . But when they took the oxygen levels down after he looked so much better he became worse and ended up in intensive care . He had a tube down into his lungs to do his breathing for him. We were in basingstoke hospital- the doctors and nurses were excellent and we were transferred to a children's critical care unit in Oxford. Here Louie received excellent care. He had so many wires coming out of him and was sedated so looked so peaceful. It was heartbreaking for me to see him like this. I spent each night and day at the hospital with him, not knowing if I would have a bed as there weren't any rooms available - but lucky they found me somewhere to get a few hours sleep. Then Louie began to get better and they started to turn the oxygen down and gradually came off all the medication. Then they decided to test him and take the tube out of his lungs. He wheezed and breathed heavy at first and after steroids and a nebuliser began to breathe normal again. He is only 4 months and a real little fighter. After he came round I didn't leave his side and had to keep him calm and not let him cry as was effecting his breathing. Then after 4 hours he was moved to a ward next door and there I slept on a recliner next to him for 2 nights. The next day he was so much better - he had gone through withdrawal from the drugs and was starting to smile again. I hadn't seen him like this - well it seemed like ages. I was so happy - my little boy was back.... Then we were told we could go back to basingstoke as he was feeding from the bottle. So we went back to Basingstoke and stayed overnight and he had no oxygen and so on Christmas Eve we were allowed to come home. What a Christmas present.... I feel so lucky to have my baby home ... others aren't so lucky with a baby girl dying on the ward. Been such an emotional week.

Just Really wanted to share my story - Hope you all had a Happy Christmas xx

Great news to hear your little boy is home. Coming from experience, I know how hard and emotional it is to see your little one in hospital, very scary indeed.

You poor thing - what a horrible thing to go through at such a young age. My 11 month old was hospitalised with bronchiolitis a couple of weeks ago and needed oxygen when sleeping - we were discharged last Tuesday after spending 4 nights in hospital. It's terrifying, and you must have bee n beside yourself with worry. I'm so glad your boy was home in time for christmas. I hope you've had a good one and he is fighting fit again. Xx
