High chair advice please!

It's getting to the time when I need to star looking at high chairs and I wondered if there's any specific feature I should look for or avoid?

Anything that's made your life easier? Or are some of these features just a waste of time?

Is there any benefit to the 3 in 1 type chairs (that turn into boosters to use on normal dining chairs)

We got a cuggl plum deluxe highchair. It has 6 adjustable heights and the tray is easy to get off. The tray also has a bit that comes off on top so you can still use it if the top layer gets messy. Also reclines if baby falls asleep. It’s been fine for us xx

About as basic as you can get but does the job. I’m sure some of the features of the more expensive ones must be helpful but I can’t think of anything else that I really need it to do that it doesn’t already. You can get an inflatable insert for it which can be helpful when baby is a bit smaller.

I second the ikea highchair. Absolutely brilliant. Easy to clean, easy to use. Just make sure you have something underneath it as it slipped a little on our laminate floor but we bought some of those soft kids floor tiles to put under it (also easy to clean) and it stays firmly in place.

I have a graco one that someone gave me for free and although looks better than an ikea one my daughter likes to slump it in due to its design and her love of putting her feet up even though she can now independently sit ☹️ I also picked up an ikea one at a charity shop for round at my dads house and she sits far better in that. Second the cushion to go in it, a friend lent us hers as her daughter was sitting waaay before my daughter and it helped her sit correctly, now she can sit independently we don’t need it but it definitely helped when she did x

Good features- easy to clean, removable insert, encourages good upright position.

I wouldn’t say being convertible is necessary. You won’t be a booster until they are over 2

I’ve got the Chicco booster. We’ve limited space in our dining room and it’s been fantastic. We’ve used it for picnics and taking away with us. It folds down really small and is really light so it’s easily portable. I often have the baby out with me eating in places where there isn’t a high chair (not meaning restaurants) and it comes with us. It’s fairly basic, and the tray isn’t as big as on a standard high chair but that’s not been a problem so far for us. We’ve been using it for 7 months now. In fact I think it makes it easier to wash (my parents have a standard high chair and the trays not that easy to get in the sink).

I think you need to work out what is going to be easier for you. Is space an issue? Cost? Ours was about £27 and I bought it with boots points, some can cost far more than that.

I’ve used both the Ikea one (used it when staying somewhere a few weeks) and the Tripp Trapp chair, both worked out really well. Our little boy is turning 3 and still sits in the Tripp Trapp so in terms of longevity it’s great as it can be adjusted as time goes on and used for other purposes too. It fits in so much better with our furniture and was a real space saver in our small kitchen, as it just fits round the table with the other chairs. Just something to consider if you are making an investment in one, otherwise budget wise the Ikea one is fab and absolutely fit for purpose.

Ive got an expensive Phil and Ted one and a cheap ikea one, the ikea one is easier to clean, I would go the ikea one for sure!

We have IKEA and we love it. The tray is great size. I let my boy do drawing and painting and play dough on it.

Definitely the Ikea one. We started off with a more expensive one and it was a nightmare to clean. Ikea one great for everything 😀

Yep ikea simple and cheap! I had a different high before but she would slip down. I’ve still got a ikea high chair in the loft. U kno just incase lol

I personally hate the Ikea high chair. Its so hard and small that I found it difficult to get my son in it. He was only 8 months old and it was basically impossible. That being said he is 98th percentile for height and weight. I had a cosatto one and it was amazing. Height adjustable, reclined, footrest adjustable and really comfy and plenty of room in it. Xx

Interesting experience you had. I suppose it depends on baby. My son is over 2 years old and we still use it (he's 26lb8oz)

My son was 33lbs 5oz at 22 months so quite a bit larger than your son.He would fit better without the insert but hated going in it, found it very uncomfortable and would cry to come out the entire time. Also found as he’s tall in the torso the back is very short and not that supportive. It depends on how baby is built I suppose.

I suppose you're right! And what a weight difference between our boys!

Mine has always been on smaller side though, but very strong, sitting independently from 5m - even before starting his solids , so we never bought the insert and he never used the back support to rest his back.

Friend of mine has a boy who was too big for the bumboo chair , so she gave it to us. My son was so slim that he would fall out of it 🙈 he probably still fit in it 😂
