Potential of Miscarriage

Hello!

I am currently 5 weeks pregnant, and I suffered a miscarriage last year when I was 12 weeks. Does anyone know if there is a chance it could happen again? I am trying so hard to keep upbeat and positive but I am terrified it will happen again! I know how common these things are but is there anything I can do to help avoid this? x

Hiya, I know your pain, I had a medically managed miscarriage in Oct 2015 and am now 9weeks pregnant and honestly I don't think I will relax and enjoy this at all (all being well), sadly miscarriage is common, but you have to stay positive, do all the things they say, vitamins, folic acid and relax, the problem is we stress about stressing about miscarriage and it is a vicious circle, I have my fingers crossed for both of us!

I had those fears as well at the beginning. The pain in the tummy was unbelievale. Since the GP would not do anything, I went for the private advice to ARGC, the clinic where I had had my failed IVF not a long time before I got pregnant naturally. They were very nice, did the blood test for progesterone and found that I was borderline miscarriage (101). They immediately put me on cyclogest (progesterone pessaries) and he pain went away. They kept checking progesterone weekly and also did weekly scans until 12 weeks. They also put me on dexametazone, aspirin and clexane for miscarriage prevention. The NHS doctors dd not do any of that, although verbally confirmed to me that it was the right course of action, especially for an older woman like me (I was 39 when I got pregnant). I stayed on dexametazone for the first 4 months of pregnancy, cyclogest until 26 weeks, clexane until 32 weeks. Now I am on aspirin only until I reach 36 weeks. Obviously everything was done under close monitoring by ARGC and then the NHS also did their part. So I suggest that you get some qualified opinion, it costs but trust me, it is entirely worth it, especially during the first trimester.

Why were you given aspirin? I've been advised to avoid aspirin x

I was but I was only to take it when I turned 12 weeks and I miscarried then so I never took any. I'm overweight so they told me to take it when I turn 12 weeks to thin my blood so I reduce any risks further down the road. Is there risks with aspirin? I think I'll get given it again with this pregnancy x

Only the same chance as before. It's so scary but there isn't anything you can do. Try to take it one day at a time x

Reduce caffeine, have tea not strong coffee. Avoid the gym and saunas etc if your body is overheating and not sweating. Gym is fine for most pregnancies but if you've miscarried you need to speak to dr first.

Ive been reducing my fizzy drinks and only having sugar free every so often, thankfully me and the gym are not best friends ;-) thanks so much for your reply xx
