Hi mummy's,
At what age would you stop sterilising baby's bottles? My sister's HV said to stop at 6 months but I always thought it was over a year?!
What have you all been told? X

Stopping sterilising tends to coincide with weaning - hence 6 months. You don't sterilise food and by this stage your baby is putting things in its mouth regularly anyway! So it is not necessary. Your baby should have built up a decent germ resilience by this point but if you have any questions it's best to check with your HV.
I always stopped sterilising at 6 months and then gradually stopped the milk so that they were completely off the aptamil at 1. Every parent does it differently though as each child is different. You'll have to find what is best for you and your baby. Normally by 6 months they have enough resistance against bacteria to handle you no longer sterilising just make sure you still wash the bottles thoroughly.
My child just turned 1 and I just stopped, but I was only doing it out of habit lol. When they start getting around and putting god knows what in their mouths, sterilising becomes pretty pointless. Trust your instincts. Everyone parents differently, my friend still sterilises and her child is 2 😊 X
