How often is everyone seeing their midwofe?

Hello everyone. Just curious how often your midwife appointments are? I'll be going for my 6th appointment next week, 2 of which I've been told were unnecessary and I wasted my time and theirs. I think 4 appointments isn't enough by 35 weeks pregnant. Is this just me or is it standard practice?

I am 33 weeks and have probably seen my midwife about 8 times, at the beginning its not as frequent but now its every 2-3 weeks. in my notes it gives a breakdown of when you should be seeing her. 4 appts is not enough in my eyes!! x

I've seen the midwife at 8 weeks and consultant at 16 and my next one is 28 weeks...not sure after that but yeah I agree not enough! X

Thanks ladies.

I know they have a lot of women to see but they seem to lack interest even when you do see them. My midwife is available for appointments 1 morning a week and that's the only time she can be contacted through the gp surgery. I haven't been given any information about contacting a midwife directly if needed and was told if I needed to see someone before my next appointment to contact the antenatal day unit at the hospital which is only open 8am-6pm 5 days a week.

I agree with you all.i think there should definitely be more.i'm 36weeks now and i've seen them 5times (3different ones),and i havent got any more appointements now as i'm seeing consultant.

This sounds very little. It may be a good idea to discuss with your GP whether you can move your antenatal care at the hospital, where I expect the availability of midwives to be bigger

Hi there, in the 10 years between pregnancies 2 and 3 antenatal care has changed a lot. I'm now 27 weeks and even though I had an extensive deep vein thrombosis in my left leg at 10 weeks (which I had some aggressive and invasive treatment at the time), to date I have had very few antenatal appointments. The motto seems to be 'if you are well, get on with things', despite the prospect of being on anticoagulants for the rest of my life, I'm working and enjoying my pregnancy and looking forward to baby's arrival and the future.

Realistically though, how much scrutiny do pregnant women need? Pregnancy and child birth is a physically demanding natural process unique to each woman and we should stop trying to conform to a 'norm' and accept our natural selves. If we are feeling well, then the chances are that baby is well too and maybe we should simply learn to trust that instinct. :)

I saw my midwife at 9/10weeks, where they just full in forms & take blood. Then had my 12 week scan. I will then have an appointment at 16 weeks, then a 20 week scan, then midwife again at 25, and from then on its quite frequent... 28, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40 & if I haven't given birth 41 weeks.

So I will have seen her upto 10 times by birth.

However currently at 14 weeks i feel comfortable having only seen her once, and in 2more months ill be seeing her regular.

I understand if its your 2nd child they cut out some if those appts so may only be upto 7times then. Hope this helps.
