Hello,

Hope everyone is ok and enjoying some sunshine. Over in the UK we aren't blessed with too much, but at the moment it is very fine :-)

Anyhow, I moved over from Tecfidera to Ksimpta around 4 months ago after a particularly nasty relapse last year, and wondered if anyone else has done the same?

I was originally diagnosed back in 1997 and have managed my condition well in the largest part and am thankful that my experience hasn't been the aggressive kind that so many others have experienced.

At the moment I seem very susceptible to viruses, colds and sinusitis. I know that a weakened immune system is a consequence of taking Kesimpta, just wondering if your body adjusts over time, I've just been unlucky with the bugs or if this is it for the duration. I've had 3 viruses a cold and separate Sinusitis in about 8 weeks. Well, I say they are separate because I've had a few days of feeling fine in between.

Would be keen to hear your experience of similar.

BR,

Have you had your vitamin D level checked? I tend to have a harder time with colds when mine is low.

Hey, that's a great idea! That would make perfect sense. In the meantime I'll try some multi vitamins that I have on hand and see if that helps.

Hi Jasperdoo, and welcome! Sorry to hear about the issues you are having with viruses. I had been on Tecfidera for about 8 years and had no issues, except periodically some severe flushing and hives. I was switched to Kesimpta and it started out ok, but after a few months, I began having issues with widespread pain. I was so miserable on it, that after 6 months, I had to stop taking it. It took well over a year to feel like my immune system was coming back. If you continue to have regular issues with colds and viruses, it might be a good idea to run it by your neurologist. Perhaps they might suggest something to help or another DMT switch. Hope you get it sorted out. 😊

Thanks for sharing your experience. You can bet if this goes on I'll b bringing it up with the neurologist, just asking around in the mean time.

Hi! I did almost the same. I went Tecfidera => Ocrevus => Kesimpta (now for 3 years). I went quite a while without any infections but I have gotten sick a couple of times this year. Hopefully that was just an anomaly because my blood tests have all looked ok except I was a bit anemic. One thing I have noticed though is that I have been having more issues with seasonal allergies than I ever have. I would tell your doctor your concerns so they can maybe do a CBC to make sure all your blood levels look good and something else isn’t going on. Also, make sure you take any precautions you can when you’re out in public like wearing a mask or avoiding crowds in closed spaces when possible. That can really help.

Thank you for that, glad you are ok.

I have to say I have days when it feels like the underlying condition is improving, only to be masked/knocked back by some bug! I'm far more susceptible to hay fever for sure, and no doubt that is confusing things somewhat. Will bring that up with the consultant at next pass.

Good advice on the mask too.

Hi Jasperdoo! I also moved from Tecfidera to Kesimpta at the start of this year. I actually feel better on the Kesimpta with less colds/illnesses but with more fatigue. I did begin taking acidophilus probiotic at the same time in hopes it would minimize any sicknesses. Maybe that’s helped me? I also take 4000 IU of D3 daily.

I hope your body begins to adjust. Definitely talk to your neuro about it and see if there are any supplements that could help.

Best of luck!

Thank you Kelly, glad your transition is going relatively smoothly.

Vitamin D seems to be a recurring theme, and easily remedied. I haven't thought about probiotics before, so thank you for the prompt. A quick google tells me that I should certainly give them a try.
