We all rely on facts

If it is true that the MS society kicked out a 90 year old lady for not understanding the pronouns that are now demanded by a small group of ignorant people then I will not participate. If you can’t accept the truth and facts you receive no benefit from this forum. I don’t post on this cite to take part in matters that have nothing to do with MS support.

Can you provide a link to a legitimate source of your "report" that a 90yo person has been kicked out of some unspecified MS Society? I would also be interested to know who you are referring to when you say a "small group of ignorant people".

The group of people that described to the delusional ideology that after all of these years, we start using pronouns in reference to people. Less than one percent of the population is LGBTQ, and What is happening to our ability to speak the truth is under attack. I will find the source as I just watched it this morning at 5 AM. I will not participate in things that are not rooted in facts, and my main issue is it there destroying the lies of our young children!

I absolutely feel bad for the poor lady who was kicked out of the NMSS because she didn't understand what she was supposed to do, per the article Starlight5 shared. It's definitely a black eye for NMSS. It is upsetting.

I hope you feel better now that we've established that the NMSS is a different organization from MSAA, the one that that runs this forum.

However challenging some of us may find the changing use of pronouns recently, I would like to point out that members of the LGBTQ community are our fellow human beings. They get MS like the rest of us, and I hope you will remember what Jes said recently, which is that everyone should feel welcome here.

And I do but I will not allow this small % of people to force me to lie to them. Most suicides come from people with gender dysphoria and truth is not dysphoria. This has only been happening for the last few years so we really don’t know. I’m sad for this elderly woman. Glad to know it was not this association. With all the sickness this was virtue signaling and Jessica was right. Thanks for the information.

NMSS is not MSAA. While I agree that the move they made was absurd, I don't think anyone here or from MSAA would act hatefully towards someone for asking a simple question. I hope the understandably angry donors don't withdraw from supporting MS organizations entirely. I hope Fran can find another organization to work with.

How did we as a country get here?

I was furious when I saw those articles. Frances_B, the unspecified group is the National MS Society, based in the US, and I believe one of the largest and oldest MS groups in this country. They have since issued a vague non-apology that makes me angrier. The woman in question was not bashing transgender or nonbinary people but was simply expressing that she didn't understand why they wanted her to start adding "she/her" to the end of her email signature. She's 90 years old and had been a faithful volunteer for 60 years.

The non apology, coming only after donors threatened to withhold funds, was just super.

I hope a lot of donors withdraw their financial support. I want the NMSS to hurt like Budweiser has over their Bud Light mistake.

🤣🤣🤣

I meant I hope they still donate to other MS organizations, just like I hoped people would realize that Budweiser is gross and there are better beer options.

it took way too long, but common sense Americans, who had not spoken out for way too long. Finally spoke. Anheuser, Bush, and Disney or two examples of why you don’t push an extreme political agenda upon American citizens. My son is a gen z and we often go back-and-forth about white privilege. I explained to him. There is only one privilege and it’s green. The ones with the real privilege or having to pay the price for trying to force a free people like they want them to!

They yell "inclusion" but won't include a dedicated volunteer who just happens to be ignorant of the crazy idea that gender is fluid.

As I understand it a proper apology consists of 4 parts:

1. admit that you were wrong

2. say sorry

3. express a genuine desire to do better

4. make amends in some way, appropriate to the wrong done.

The apology in the sources quoted above by Starlight5 seem to me to tick boxes1, 2 and 3. I'm not sure about 4. That's not bad, in the world scale of things. The worst sort of non-apology goes "I'm sorry if you were upset."

(p.s Kit she/her in case anyone wonders)

when something that is a political, hot button and has such drastic implications starts involving children then my MS becomes a non-issue. I love my son more than anything in the world and I’m never thought that the MS Society would even think about going down this road.

While the way the NMSD handled this originally is gross, so are some of the posts in here. There’s a high rate of overlap between the LGBTQ community and the disabilities communities- imagine what could be accomplished by banding together. Despite being a (straight) married woman who has MS, I sincerely hope anyone at that intersection who has to read some of this thread today knows that you have a friend in me.

Adults I can empathize with because as a Christian judgment is not something that I can get down with. If you haven’t walked in someone’s shoes, you have no right, however, when it comes to transitioning children in the name of affirming care it should be criminal.. For a school to hide gender dysphoria from the parents and encourage mutilation of their body parts in puberty blockers, one of which is Lupron used for chemical castration in sex offenders is barbaric. And even though a male may identify as female, you cannot convince me that dressing undressing and exposing himself to a young female, is helpful to the LGBTQ community and we are spending way too much time and resources in mainstream media is pushing the agenda, and that’s a shame.

We are Not going to go here on this site Mark1499 remember we are called My MSAA Community 🙂 Did you know that Stress is a key factor in MS? It can help bring on a Relapse? So do you really want to stress ppl out? Do you want to stress me out? 🤣 So let's just stop now, thank you! 🤗💕🌠

Mark1499 in reply to Jesmcd2

I completely understand especially the stress issue, and I will put this to rest. Please understand that when organizations government or anything else gets off topic and starts to do things that affect children it bothers me. I sure you I will make no more comments concerning this matter and I apologize if I have stressed anyone out, it was not a premeditated action.

The NMSS has unfortunately let its ageism show. The 90-year-old woman hadn't kept up with some current language trends, and asked what the pronouns were about. A very legitimate question especially considering her age and that people in that age group aren't always able to keep up with the latest language changes--many of which turn out to be passing fads, incidentally.

Shame on the National MS Society. After 60 years of service to them, and considering her age, she deserved far better than she got.
