I canceled going with my family yet again

I thought I was mostly prepared ahead of time this year. I’ve learned over the years what needs to be done the night before so that I don’t overdo it in the morning. Still happens.

The last two weeks have been very stressful and have had a whirlwind of unplanned events. I accomplished pretty much everything I needed to get done other than showing up for Thanksgiving. I’m just happy that I got the food prepared I said I would bring to send with my family.

Dan doesn’t understand… But that’s not uncommon…especially when they didn’t get home from the bowling tournament last night or actually this morning until 4 AM. He helped a tiny bit last night and again at 4 AM, but slept in until like 10 AM. I was on my feet way too much for like the 100th day in a row…actually 14th day🤗 Our eight month old grandson, Luca, has been at our house since about 9:45 AM and I only held him for about five minutes. That should give you perspective.❤️

I just now made it into the shower but still haven’t laid down. It’s all good I promise now that I’ve showered, I’m finally sitting down and relaxing in my brand new birthday recliner that was delivered yesterday… with puppy Addy. -Kris

More power to you! I did what the family wanted again, and I decided this afternoon that it'll be the last time.

At some point, each of us is forced to reckon with the impulse to maintain traditions for family. The price we pay so often goes unnoticed or unappreciated, and in the worst cases is judged as a character failure. I have learned the hard way not to overdo, not to volunteer more than I can easily accomplish, and if that means I bring one dish and not several, or buy a fruit tray so I am freed to arrive and enjoy the event, so be it. It's a hard lesson to learn, but good for everyone when we do!

sounds wonderful...we do push to get it done but in the end it makes us actually feel pretty good in the end and feel proud that we did get it done ...i do the same and then can sit back and feel so happy that i got it done and then can relax for it is done ...makes me happy ...love and much happiness and some needed rest ....

Good for you for taking care of yourself. We all need to know our limits as to not put so much stress on our bodies & mind.🤗

If you wanted to go, leave Dan behind. It sounds like he is not there for you. You planned to go and he wasn't there for you. Leave him behind and visit your family - as long as this is what you want to do.

i am thankful you taught me to take care of myself and do just what you can..that is enough.Even holding a grand for a moment is wonderful. Mine are far away, no relatives here, grands last Christmas left me a rabbit that they recorded thier voices about me... i cry... a good one though.getting a bath and getting back in bed a relief but what a job. thankful.
