Older and life is up to me only

Always knew my life was mine to create. Didn't realize how circumstances not in my control would alter everything I attempted.

Boy can I relate to your post! Yes; it's difficult to acknowledge how much our MS diagnoses have altered the course of our lives.

But, we must try to stay positive and not let it get the best of us. Some days are better than others, of course. But, I'm so glad you have found our MSAA Community. This supportive community has helped me greatly.

Wishing you a healthy and happy Memorial Day Weekend! 🙂🙏🤞

Yes; me too. I was dx in 1994 just after turning age 26. I just turned age 56. Thirty years seems like a very long time. But, I'm very blessed to have started on treatment by age 29.

Although I am progressing slowly, I had to retire early due to the MS fatigue and cognitive dysfunction at age 45. I'm all alone too, except for my rescue kitty, who has really rescued me. She provides such unconditional love companionship.

Our MSAA Community continues to be a much-needed on-line support group for all the varied issues multiple sclerosis presents. I am very thankful for this community and everyone here.

Blessings!

I was thinking about a rescue dog. Rescue Kitty sounds good as well. I’m so happy you have this one. What’s your kitties name? It helps to live in the present day or present hour. I don’t know where you all live but I live in Arlington Virginia and there’s so much cement here this summer is coming and it’s I am dreading the heat. I am not from Arlington. I wish I lived in my hometown in North Carolina still. It helps to find things I love here and focus on them for now.

My rescue cat's given name was Alice, but I call her Ali Cat. I actually rescued a puppy from the Heaven To Earth Rescue last year. The pup I rescued was a mixed breed (fox terrier/jack russell terrier). Fox Terriers are the perfect breed for seniors/disabled, but he wasn't a pure bred fox terrier; Ace was part Jack Russell Terrier. After 12 weeks he became too much. I cried like a baby, but I knew it was better to part now, when he was still a puppy, than to part later we both became too attached.

My local rescue took him in and he was adopted almost immediately to a more active family. June was Adopt A Cat month; I rescued a kitten. I got Alice who was the last in her litter to be adopted. She looks more like a Jersey Dairy Cow, white with black markings, than a typical feline. But, her distinction makes me love her all the more!

Best of luck to you in finding your furr baby! 🙂🤞

his name is Bob. He is a very different dude! He is part asian leopard cat and part domestic cat. Which makes things interesting on a daily basis. I was gonna get a dog. A German shepherd but I didn’t think my lack of mobility would be fair to him. So i settled on a cat. When I had dogs I had to be home to feed them but with a cat it’s whatever. There’s always food and water. There’s a litter box for him and a play gym. He is an amusing character who takes my mind off life for a while 🙂

I too dreading the heat too. I’m already looking forward to fall 😂

Welcome to the forum,  YellowButtons ! Yes, situations beyond our control alter our progress, sometimes . The operative word is ‘alter’ because I choose to see progress! Never give up! I am always surprised at what I can accomplish, despite anything that might come my way. There’s always another way. I look forward to hearing more from you, and take a look at mymsaa.org for ways to perhaps help you do the things you need assistance with. Keep Smiling :-D

I have found that I was working so hard to survive in the last 10 years or so That I had to shut down all my emotions without even being aware of what I was doing. I would hope that my heart soften and open up to people again. Surviving is very different from living.

My hope is that when I have my little friend the dog that will help me to open up my heart as well. Where I live I don’t have to pay extra to have a dog.

So happy that I found you all!

I hear you, YellowButtons. Were you a late bloomer like me? I am 62, diagnosed just over 2 years ago. What a shock! Oddly enough, the sun keeps rising and setting, and the seasons keep changing. Life goes on - just differently! Is. 41:10 is my go-to verse. Maybe it will help you too. 💙

I had it since I was a junior in college. It was not diagnosed until one year after the first MRI. My first MRI literally was the first machine ever made and it was terrifying! That MRI showed one lesion. A year later I lost my vision, optic neuritis so it was temporary thank God, but that was a relief because that was when I got my diagnosis officially. The only thing back then they had to treat it was high-dose IV steroids but I didn’t care because at least there was something to treat it with instead of just lying there and having no way to help myself except to lifestyle.

When I look at the list of medicines that people take it’s like that’s the marker of the life I had with MS. right now though I am tired. It’s been a very rough winter and spring. I am very grateful to have found this group in this community. Is impossible to explain MS to someone who has not experienced it. Thank you again.

A MS dx creates a paradigm shift for the individual. Day to day, regardless of who or where we are, we must find new ways to complete our daily tasks. From what I’ve seen, the members on this forum are all fighters! Just reading and liking posts is part of that shift! So keep writing, keep fighting!

First I would like to welcome you into our family YellowButtons! I also have progressed into Secondary Progressive MS about 6 to 7 years ago and boy my life changed dramatically. The sad part is my mind is willing but my body is weak so sometimes I do stupid stuff!I'm so glad that you found our chat room because it is full of some of the most compassionate, kind, positive, and caring people you will ever find. I am sure there is must we can learn from each other. Our biggest strength is together we are not only stronger but we are smarter! Fancy59.
