I have answers now to my back problems

I have the results of the CT scan. I’m afraid it is not good news. It’s not kidney stones. I have severe degenerative scoliosis. My spine has a severe curvature in it, which is causing me all of the pain, discomfort and suffering. The really GOOD news is that I can still get to the gym and I have permission to lift weights and hike and do other activities that I want to do. It was looking a bit iffy when my doctor thought it was my SI joint. My mom always said that she was a tough old bird and I am trying to keep her attitude! I’m a tough old bird too, just not nearly as old as she was when she said it. I’m truly suffering all the time, let’s add this to my MS pain and make life really fun, shall we? Plus it is affecting my legs so much, as the hips are compensating for the change in my back. The interesting thing is that you can’t see it just by looking at me. Love to all of you, Kelly

Thanks Sandy. I keep all of the people here in mind when I’m hurting so much. I remind myself that everyone has pain of some kind in their life. For some people it’s emotional, others it is physical. It’s very helpful to me.

for some of us it's both but at least love heals the emotional pain.

Yes, that’s right. If only physical pain was healed by love that way also!

Are they giving you a brace or anything??

Amore55 profile image

Not yet, but it will come to that eventually.

My youngest had severe scoliosis. When we first adopted him he had to wear a full body brace to hold off the S shape from getting worse until he got older. It worked, until it progressed too much. He had his entire spine fused and his height went up by 4"! But his entire spine was involved, not just a section.

I sure wish you well and hope you get relief soon.

At least lifting weights will help you with your balance and may help with the curvature of your spine. 👍💜

Amore55 profile image
Amore55 in reply tojimeka

Yes, it will strengthen my core, but only surgery can possibly straighten my spine. If I have to do that at some point, I will.

so happy you finally have answers! Glad you can still do everything you want! Keep pushing! Sorry you have to add this to the ms. I think the ms is more than enough, but apparently life disagrees 😂

I’m sorry for all of your pain. Did you take any meds for your MS pain? How will the scoliosis be treated?

Amore55 profile image
Amore55 in reply toElizt3

I have been taking hydromorphone for my back pain. Before that I had not been taking anything for my MS pain. It’s really strong stuff. I think eventually I will get a brace and surgery possibly. Thanks for your concern, I am so grateful.

You have such a wonderful attitude. I’m so sorry you have to go through this. Hopefully pt will help you. I just completed my 145th time at pt. It’s slow but when I look back it is amazing what has been accomplished. You ARE inmy prayers 🙏

I suspect and hope that there are things you can do to help reduce the effects and progression of degenerative scoliosis. Some info I got from online: Nonsurgical treatments for degenerative scoliosis include:

avoidance of activities that worsen symptoms

physical therapy, Pilates or yoga to strengthen muscles

moist heat or cold

acupuncture

spine manipulations

oral medication

injected medications

Yes, I found those too. I have done yoga for about two years now. I’m grateful that it keeps me limber. The moist heat at pt helps so much!

Dear Kelly.

I just saw a webinar with Dr. Loren Fishman on osteoporosis. He has 12 exercises thar stimulate the bones to renew themselves

.in course of talk he also has exercises for scoliosis. That help strengthen spine. I have some scoliosis & looked briefly. But super busy this week.

I will try to get webcast to send to you. Need to do on computer not phone. He may have some you tube on scoliosis, haven't looked up yet.

Best to you.
