Need help with booze

No, not that kind of help, thank God. My mother wants a bottle of champagne for her 80th birthday, and I don't know the first thing about fancy alcohol. Can anyone suggest one that will taste good to her but won't require me to sell my firstborn?

I have 8 more days to finalize plans for this latest idiocy of mine (it's a surprise party), and I'm just hoping that I can survive until it's all over. At least I didn't go ahead with my initial idea to rent the fire hall and send out an open invitation to everyone she's ever known...

Sparkling Apple Cider in a champagne glass?

Well, I already have that for those of us who don't drink, which is pretty much the rest of the guests! I was just trying to make the day special and give her everything she'd asked for (when she didn't realize she was doing it). Maybe I'll give up on the idea and just give her sparkling cider, too. Besides, she'll throw a fit if I spend more money on this. She's already going to kill me...

I don't drink fancy 🤷‍♀️ I prefer Cava to real champagne and there's a cheap tasty brand, Cupcake, at Kroger.

NorasMom Mt favorite is Asti Muscato or Muscato d’Asti. Attaching the brand I like in photo. Costco has it for $15, Trader Joe it’s $20. Enjoy.

Thank you! I'd almost decided to just go with the sparkling cider, but I could handle spending $20 on my mother!

Cook's Brut. About $8 and it tastes great.

A bottle of Spanish champagne is about $9: Black bottle, Frexinet...it's light, sparkling, and lovely.

I agree with goatgal, Frixinet is a good one and not expensive.
