One phrase Doctors must remove from their vocabulary

When they are telling you that you lab tests came back great, they can eliminate "FOR YOUR AGE".

I spend enough on depression already!

I got that when I was 40 something and had to do a stress test on the treadmill.

Four nurses surrounded me while I walked, then ran full blast.

They didn't think I'd last as long as I did and I would've dropped dead before I let them think I couldn't kick some arse.

Amen to that! Calling attention to someone's age is hardly ever going to accomplish anything, and why doctors of all people use that expression is beyond me.

Once a neuro was looking at my MRI and murmuring something about "brain shrinkage." Then he said my brain was that of a typical person some 15 years older than my actual age. I don't mind this kind of grim comment nearly as much because it told me something about my MS. But "for your age" in general is the kind of comment that is only depressing.

I never act my age and I don’t expect my body to either, jorrell ! I wouldn’t know what to make of that if my doctor uttered those words, as I usually had my parents say that to me when I was a kid! I agree that they should not say that, and instead say that you’re a medical marvel. I love it when I confuse my doctors.
