I can see!.. Sort a...

This morning I had the cataract removed from my left eye. What an experience! I don't have much depth perception but I can already see better out of it & it's only been 8 hours. I was a little nervous about being awake during the procedure but with the tad bit of anesthesia I didn't care. I could see the light on the laser moving back & forth but didn't feel a thing. As long as I keep the drops in I'm still not feeling discomfort. What does bother me is if I put my glasses on I can't see out of that eye. When I take them off I can't see out of my right eye. I'm having the other eye done in two weeks. It'll be so nice to be able to see again! In the mean time I'm walking around with my classy Ray Charles sunglasses bumping into everything!😎

glad you are having this done and that your vision is already improving. it's going to be a long 2 weeks but so worth it. I know how much glasses cost but the good news is you won't need them anymore!

Thanks but unfortunately I will still need glasses due to the astigmatism I have. I couldn't afford the lenses that will correct that at $3,600 each eye that insurance doesn't cover.

Congratulations! May the second eye go as well. Having worn glasses myself since I was 8, I salute you!

Thanks! I've worn glasses since the beginning of 4th grade. I'll still have to wear glasses to correct astigmatism.

I actually close the eye I had surgery on. I can't see up close with that eye.

I'm glad to hear your experience of the surgery. I will be facing it at sometime. Somehow people working on my eye while I'm awake scares me. All I've ever heard is "piece of cake" but you have said more than that so it's more comforting!

hairbrain4 profile image
hairbrain4 in reply to mrsmike9

It really is a "piece of cake". I was a little nervous about someone operating on my eyes, I don't even like someone else putting drops in. But after the 1st drop of lidocaine to start numbing it you can't feel anything & it goes real fast. The whole procedure from the the time you walk back to the prep room till you walk out takes less than an hour.

Thank you so much. I remember when I was fitted with contacts I asked the lady, "how good are you at putting things in eyes that people kind of don't want in their eyes?" She was good and I wore contacts for awhile. I feel reassured now for when they decide it's time.

You cannot see with your glasses on because your eyesight has changed, for the better, hairbrain4 ! You will probably need to get a new pair of glasses, if you need glasses, after all is said and done! :-D

hairbrain4 profile image
hairbrain4 in reply to carolek572

Oh yeah I will need them for up close for sure & probably the astigmatism. Right now I have to wear my glasses & close the "new" eye & read with the other. Then to do everything else I have to take them off. Glad I only have to deal with this for an other week & a half before I have the other eye done.😎

Be careful, hairbrain4 , or I might be thinking that you're winking at me! πŸ˜‰

hairbrain4 profile image
hairbrain4 in reply to carolek572

Oh, I'll wink alright, usually with my right eye involuntarily. It's a fairly new thing my face has started to do. It goes along with my half-smile on the left side of my mouth. It feels like my face is dancing... 😎

How is your vision now, Hairbrain? Pardon the late reply, but the 2 weeks leading up to Easter is a zoo here at my desk. Found your note in my email while cleaning out! Sure hope you are improving and the right eye goes as smoothly as the left did. Prayers for a quick recovery!!

I had the other eye done on Wednesday & now I can see out of both eyes! I am very pleased with the outcome of both eyes. Next Thursday I have my last follow-up visit & I can get some cheater glasses to help with reading up close.
