Much needed hobby ideas...

Greetings to All, As one who has PPMS I'm very limited as to what I can do. I'm looking for hobby ideas. I cannot use my fingers much so anything such as sewing is off the table (I used to love my sewing machine, buying patterns etc :(). I'm very much an avid reader but sometimes I simply want to DO something! If anyone has ideas for me, it would be much appreciated! Gracy

Hi Gracy, I do diamond art. It looks fiddly but I can still manage to do it. The best thing about diamond art is that it doesn’t matter where you leave off, it doesn’t task the brain with missing a stitch or whatever. Look into it and let me know what you think. Blessings Jimeka

Hi, gracy! What about jigsaw puzzles? You choose the complexity level. If you find someone else who enjoys puzzles, you can swap out puzzles once you have finished them (unless they want to frame theirs!). Here at the church where I work, church members like to bring their used puzzles and swap with other members. Here's a link to get your starts (or check Walmart): whitemountainpuzzles.com/

Hi Sandydemop! I do write, but a lot of times I come up blank. I have a page I type out ideas, phrases etc. As for sudoku, I'm afraid math and I are arch enemies lol. Thanks so much for the response.

Sudoku isn't really math it is more like fill-it-in's. Try an easy one. There is no math it's just filling each box with the numbers one through nine making sure that one through nine are in each line also. Once you do if you it's not too hard. I do mind on my tablet with online puzzles.

If there are wheel throwing pottery classes available, give it a whirl (pun intended)

I've had to make adjustments to how I throw and paint due to dexterity issues but it is still just as fun as ever.

I use my knuckles rather than fingertips to throw clay and as for painting, I use or wrap my brushes with tape to make them thicker & easier to grip.

I have experimented with paint pouring as well and it is a colossal mess but ....nope it just sucks.

😂😂😂I jope you find something you like :)

Add to all the great ideas, crossword puzzles, adult coloring books, or online participation in Tai Chi or seated yoga.

I started tying flies for fly fishing. There are many levels of difficulty, but if your eyes are ok it can be fun, artful even. I'm not as fast as I want to be,but I have all day to do it.

M.S progressively limits our physical abilities but also limits our cognitive abilities I recommend signing up on line with Lumosity.com to exercise your cognitive abilities, think it cost about $60 a year and produce a daily/weekly stretching routine best if you can find someone that is willing to help you. MS Society, MSAA, MS Foundation all have literature available, hope this helps should keep you busy. Peter

I have one hand that curls up leaving me frustrated. How about learning a new language. There are apps out there that are fun too. My fave is Duolingo. Memrise is very good too. I spend about 15min daily learning. I color with an app and am addicted to sudoku.

What sorts of things appeal to you?

Writing is my big thing however that darn MS has my brain short circuited lol. My concentration is lacking at best. I used to love painting wooden ornaments etc. Sewing too was a big thing for me.

mrsmike9 profile image
mrsmike9 in reply togracy225

Couldn't you still paint the ornaments? There are all kinds of things you can repurpose and paint. Check out hobby store sales or Goodwill for items you can paint. I have a 13 year old niece with a blood disorder and spends a lot of time in the hospital. She and friends made ornaments at Christmas and let children on her ward pick out one.

Hi mrsmike, I'm so sorry to hear about your niece! It is heartbreaking to hear of one so young spending so much time in hospital. To answer your question, yes, I could still paint though I'll try bigger things instead of intricate. Thanks for responding and the Goodwill idea. I love those stores! gracy

Well, follow your heart and try things. You never know if you discover something new! I believe you are newer and probably haven't seen my button art. Facebook, button MosaicS is where my things can be seen. I started doing it just because of MS.

Hmmm...you can start coloring as well. It's one of my favorite hobbies since it's really relaxing and helps to concentrate better. I have recently found a special siguiente enlace coloring-for-kids.com/es site with a huge collection of coloring sheets, it's really good for your mental health and nerves.
