Winter Dryness

Hello

It's like 2 degrees here right now in Wisconsin. My condo and the air is so dry😕 It's like damaging my skin possibly. I've had an Aprilaire humidifier on the Furnace everywhere else I've lived in my life except for this place. Because of how they are setup, one cannot add an Aprilaire humidifier here. I put moisturizer on my legs and feet but it still virtually dries up in 2-3 hours. I wear shorts year round because I have Small Nerve Fiber Neuropathy in my legs. Anyone have any tricks?

A cool mist humidifier is my go to for the same problem. They are quiet, easy to fill, and compact. I have one made by Vicks that is at least 10 years old. I also use a folding drying rack in the house in winter for some washed items. As they dry, they help reduce the dryness.

We use a free standing humidifier in the living room and a small table top one in the bedroom.

If we don't start them up around November, I will end up with a sore throat or dry up and blow away.

Here are some reviews for this year; nytimes.com/wirecutter/revi...

Drink more water and don’t take very hot showers .

Most lotions you get at the store will dry your skin believe it or not. They are topical only & contain alcohol or one of the derivatives &/or petroleum products. You should use a plant based oil - not baby oil which is petroleum based, which dries your skin.

I do use a plant based one.Still dries out.

I do need to drink more water probably. But, that's more difficult then it used to be too

Thanks everyone for your responses.

I use coconut oil after taking a shower. I also drink lots of water with a little lemon juice added just to give it some flavor.

I can't use most commercial lotions because they contain alcohol. I'm allergic to that ingredient, it makes my skin break out in a bad rash that drives me nuts for a week...and my husband claims I'm crazy enough as it is and don't need any additional help in that respect. 🤣😂🤣😂🤪🙃🤪🤣😂🤣

Another thing you might try is getting a terracotta pot without any drainage holes in the bottom and keep it filled with water and near a heat source. It should help with the dry air.

I use Cerave cream with the red label. The dermatologist recommended it to me when I had that problem. I haven’t had it since using the Cerave.
