Our squirrels don't have to pretend they are birds to get enough to eat. We have more acorns that fall on the ground than they can store up.

Don't get me started. Too late! But we've come to an understanding. I fought squirrels for years, all types, including the flying ones! STAY OFF THE BIRD FEEDERS, all of them. "Squirrel Proof bird feeders" all 42 types, even the one I made rigged with an electric fence shocker! The shocker worked better than the squirrel spinner! TILL they called in their electrician squirrels...After many, many chewed up feeders, they also no longer jump over 20' from the nearest tree in suicidal leaps to get to them. No the "barbed wire & spikes" didn't slow them down jumping from trees, but the petroleum jelly coated landing surfaces, including also the baffle and pole. Dusted with red pepper flakes, did the trick! AND the Word has gotten around. After having to clean off that hot pepper flaked vaseline from the fur, yeah, not worth it! After having to refresh the nasty coating for about a year, not one will even attempt anything but that which has fallen to the ground! They understand! And I Finally perfected a solution! The understanding also includes, if the birds haven't dropped enough seed, they will not crawl up the screen door begging for more. Just a tap on the glass. And if I'm around, I'll toss out some of the good stuff. What do you want, the Macadamia or Brazil nut floor sweepings from the local nut factory? Or how about the peanuts in a shell? I no longer eat peanuts, they're all yours. Just Stay off the feeder. AND Stay off the patio door screen, and NEVER, EVER, chew another hole in my roof, and then run around the attic to wake me up in the morning. We got it!
