Have any of you used this medication for TN? How did it work for you? Side effects?

Yes tried long ago. Tegretol worked better for me and oxcarbazepine caused my sodium to drop too low. But everyone is different in their response to meds. Good luck!

Hi Tulip77,

I’m on oxcarbazepine—my Neuro gave it to me as a migraine preventative. While I’m not diagnosed with MS (yet?) I’ve got multiple other autoimmune dx and also have chronic nerve pain over my whole body including TN and ON. I’m sorry to say that the oxcarbazepine hasn’t touched my nerve pain, although it has been helpful with reducing the number of migraines I suffer. Perhaps it’s because my dose (150mg 2x/day) is too low? I will ask my Neuro at the next visit if he’s had success with using it for nerve pain and at what doseage. I used to take gabapentin to treat the nerve pain and had to give it up because once I got to a doseage that was somewhat effective for the pain, I had awful side effects. I’m sorry you’re suffering TN, the pain from nerve issues is brutal. 💜
