Temperature issue- urinary problem

I’ve read some posts and articles about some with MS being affected by the heat. I had thought that maybe this was not an issue for me. I always get tired in the heat, but I think most people do.

Urinary retention and a few times, completely unable to urinate were one of my initial symptoms. I haven’t had the problem for 3-4 weeks now. Today however I was outside for several hours and was unable to go. I was in a situation where I couldn’t just go home and was stuck outside for 5-6 hours. I never could go (outside restroom only). I tried. Once back home, and an hour in the AC driving home, I found relief.

Also, when I was driving home, and was cooled off, i felt like my left eye had a large black blob in the peripheral view of my left eye. I have not had ON, just some off and on eye pain over the years.

Everything is back to my normal now. Is this just heat related?

People with MS that are heat sensitive to the extent I am don’t just feel tired in the heat as you suggested, we can stop functioning and even pass out. In my situation, if my body core temperature goes up even a tiny bit, I’m in trouble. I actually had a hospital admin call a code blue on me when I got too hot while taking my friend in for surgery. It’s not a trivial thing and it’s why getting a fever can be dangerous for those of us affected by heat to this level.

That said, you may very well have been experiencing difficulty related to your body getting too hot. It’s common for MS’ers and nothing like what happens to the average person that feels hot.

sounds like you really got overheated and that is hard on someone with MS and i myself get hard to communicate and breath and dizzy sometimes so bad have to sit...need to call and talk to your doctor about this ...be careful getting to hot and i forgot i use to get the black square in the eye when i got overheated and would go away...usually in the shower for i use to take really hot showers but then it got to the point that it didn't go away and now have shots in my eye for the swelling and what ever it is called ...don't know if the hot showers did it or not they just say it is usually from high blood pressure but i haven't had high blood pressure so make sure you go to the doctor ...take care it isn't something to mess with ...MS is a lot different then normal everyday things ...love and happiness ...laugh and smile make yourself and someone else to smile...

Heat outside Really affects me, however I can still take a hot shower (thank God) and not be affected. I know someone with MS here in town who can't even submerge her hands in warm water without being affected. If I am outside and it's hot and I'm trying to do something, anything! other than sitting I get so hot and dizzy. I try not to get to that point but when I do my family knows I'm down for the count until I cool off.

The heat could be the cause but I don't think it would cause that unless you have already been diagnosed with MS urinary issues.

What I experience do to the heat is an increase of all my MS symptoms.

If that's the same for you then you may have underlying problems that haven't presented themselves fully yet.

Good luck with things.

I have been diagnosed with MS urinary retention. It was one of my initials symptoms.

Then I would think it was heat related.

My eurologist told me, back in June, when I was telling him about some issues I was having, and he told me that one of the issues was probably due to heat, rather than a new leision. Okay, so, if you are experiencing another round of Optic Neuritis until you cooled off, that may be the case with the heat.
