I am not sure if it is heat related or a new symptom, but I am experiencing vertigo really badly. Specifically when I lay down, I feel like the room is spinning. I feel rather sick to my stomach and get a bit afraid. Do any of you good people experience this? If so, have you found a solution? Many thanks! Love to all. Kelly

Vertigo-Anyone?
Yes I do and it’s the pits! I due a nausea pill and seems to help. Normally happens when I over due it🤬 Ken 🐾🐾
It may be a good idea to be evaluated for BPPV, a positional vertigo. It’s benign, but very troublesome. I’ve had problems with it. Mine eventually went away on its own, but Epley maneuvers can really help.
I have had vertigo but resolved on its own never heard of that it was quite interesting
greaterexp mentions BPPV but hasn't provided any info on it for you. Check out these sites for some info and then go and see either your PCP/GP to get checked over. A competent physio is usually trained to do the "Epley Manoeuvres" which are a series of movements done to move crystals which can cause vertigo out of the part of your ear where they tickle the cilia and cause a position related vertigo.

What the Mayo Clinic is calling Canalith re-positioning on this webpage is what is more usually known as "Epley Manoeuvres".
I had it some, many years ago. I think that it is called positional vertigo if it happens when you are laying down.
I went to the hospital because I was vomiting a lot. The ER doctor kept trying to get me to lay down but that was when it would get really bad! They gave me something to stop it but I don’t remember what it was.
I haven’t had much for a long while though.
My hubby gets BPPV, very mildly but when it decides to play up he can’t stand up. Hope yours gets better soon 🤗
I have had that exact thing. I was diagnosed with BPPV, and with the help of a therapist exercise, I was able to recover. Let your doctor know of this and perhaps you can get some relief as well. Keep Smiling, Amore55
Sorry to hear about you having the vertigo. I have that too and it stinks. Sometimes it keeps me from going anywhere. My doctor gave me the prescription Meclizine. When I feel that it's coming on I take one and it really does help.
Isn't vertigo one of the 'classic' MS symptoms?
I was referred to ENT/ Audiology and had loads of tests done and they ruled out things like Menieres, Labrynthitis, BPPV.
I was vomiting, couldn't stand up, room spinning etc.
I eventually had something called a Videonystamography test done. This is when I was referred to Neurology because the found that the vertigo was caused by a brainstem issue.
Yes, vertigo is quite often related to MS, but BPPV is not - it is a condition with its own causes even though its effects can seem to be MS related, which is why it too often gets dismissed by people with comments like "Oh, it's just your MS", and why people should get checked to find out if it is the cause of vertigo, as it is easily treated. As you note, you had a heap of tests run and they ruled it out in your case, which then resulted in you being referred on to the neuros. You can have both MS related vertigo and BPPV - which I do, and the two are quite different in many ways, as my MS related vertigo is not triggered by any movements or positions - it just happens, while the BPPV is triggered by movement/change of position. Amore55 says she is "experiencing vertigo really badly. Specifically when I lay down, I feel like the room is spinning" and this is far more indicative of BPPV and much less likely to be an MS symptom. However, it should still be checked out by a doctor and physio so that it can be treated if it is BPPV.
Yeah, that's why I mentioned the Videonystamography test. Not everyone will know about this particular test, it's done in Audiology to determine if vertigo and balance issue is an ear or brain issue. They monitor your eye movements with these goggle type things to determine if it's BPPV etc.
Like you say, it's good to eliminate other causes before assuming it's neurological. I was convinced I had Meniere's disease, I was so shocked when they said it was neurological!
I had the tests when they suddenly move your head quickly, and had water poured into my ear. So horrible!
I have Orthostatic Hypotension (blood pressure drops) and I get dizziness from that, especially if I stand up too quickly. And my vertigo was lumped onto that for a while! So frustrating! Because dizziness from the OH doesn't last that long and is triggered by movement- whereas my vertigo was constant.
My main MS system is based on my vestibular nerve which controls all of you balance systems. Heat greatly intense my symptoms. In the short term you can take Meclizine (Drammine) over the counter. Call PCP and see if he will call in a script for nausea.
If this continues you can start looking for a vestibular physical therapist. They will go through exercises to reset the crystals in your ears.
Give it some time though to make sure it's not just a heat issue.
