imuno- suppresant drugs and covid19

I am living with relapsing remitting MS and have recently changed to an imuno-suppresant Treatment, shortly after switching meds, I had a heart attack( no correlation)) , but hence I have not been working for sometime, first I had to wait to be released by my cardiologist, which happened at the end of March. By then of course the covid 19 pandemic was in full bloom across the country therefore my primary care doctor, and my neurologists both feel that I shouldn't return to work with suppressed imune system, while the virus is still rampant. so still trying to figure out when and how I can, or should return to work. ( I am a letter carrier for the USPS)

Have you problems with a new tratament with the pandemia? If you can work at home, do It. I hope you had soon an answer of a doctor.✋

The future nobody knows. The crisis after Pandemia or no. Or if nobody won’t help in the future. If you like your work, do It. You have family, and Maybe you have more people that can help you of any way. If you protect with masc, Maybe is enough.

Do what you think and what make you happy.

All have solution except the dead.

I stay at home. I only go out to the shop, or farmacy or other necessary thing. My parents also in the same hause with recent operation of heart my father, change of valvula, and 3 bypass, ...in March, and my mother with cancer of breast in 2017 with quimio and radio. They are well. Resting. They are 80 and my father 81 years old.

He loves his bici, is ciclist, and all his live doing biciclet. So his operation in the hospital was well because he Has superated the operation thanks of his sport of all his live, since young .

His son or doughter do less sport.

So, if you can do what you want independent of what doctors have told you, do It.

Hi. I love your version of the English language. Spanish must be your first language. Where do you live?

Violonchelo profile image
Violonchelo in reply toBettysMom

Yes. I live in the North of my country. I should live in the shouth but health MS make me live in the north.

The north here came from in the history the Celtic that they came from German civilization.

The north of Spain is on the left GAliciA, center AsturiAs, after Santander and in the right north País Vasco.

All this 4 parts are diferent between them . Only GAliciA and País Vasco have oficial own lenguage. The weather is cold and little summer. Near sea, nice beaches. And mountains .

I don’t feel of any part of the co.untry. But I love the sun and light where in the north is few months. The sun and confortable weather of light is in the south for many months, with very short winter.

But in the north the summer is short.

Maybe now you know where I live . 👍

Thanks for the interesting information. I don't know much about Spain. I live in the USA, in Southern California. I live inland so our summers are warm and dry and our winters are mild. My name is Sharon. I am a retired pediatrician.

tell them that you need a route that you can drive and can wear gloves and wear a mask to keep you safe if you want to go back but ha if doctor says no best to listen to them ...with MS we are so much more sensitive to germs is the way i look at it ..take care and stay safe for yourself during all of this ...

This is true.

That sounds like a tough decision. If you are healthy enough to do your route you can take extra precautions to keep the germs away. I have been on Ocrevus for a year & haven't' had any problems. I have followed basic hygiene rules for the past 3 years and haven't gotten sick at all. You can wear gloves and a face mask with a shield, making sure to take off & dispose of the gloves, sanitize the mask & shield, and change your clothes as soon as you get home. When you stop for breaks and/or lunch make sure you take your gloves off and sanitize your hands before eating or drinking. I also take a multivitamin and vitamin C as extra precautions. I presume you are changing your diet to eat healthy foods which will help to fight off any new germs along with drinking lots of water to keep your system flushed.

thank you for thoughtfull reply, my feeling is that this Corona virus is unusually contageous and the imuno- suppressant meds concern my physicians. I have been vegitarian most of my life and vegan for the last several years. And yes in most ways have been very pleased with my experience on Ocrevus. Hope you're staying relatively healthy

You are correct in that you realize you are in the risk group due to your heart condition and Ocrevus.

The MSAA website has some info on which MS treatments might be best or worst regarding this Covid19. I'm on Tecfidera and it is in the list that seems to make us more susceptible to the virus, and I think Ocrevus is as well. I would advise you to think very carefully about going back to work. You might spend some time thinking about another avenue of work, unless the postal service could find something "in house" for you to do, not involving a lot of other people. I have also looked into whether the two medicines that are being studied and used in hospital treatment, and found that hydroxychloroquin is very bad for us and our medications. If I am hospitalized, I will be asking for Remdesivir if they will give it. I would love to hear any stories about MS patients who have had the virus and survived, and what treatment was given to them. We need to hear some good survival stories right now!

One more thing...It is very important that we MS'ers all be taking extra supplementation of Vitamin D3 and Vitamin C right now to boost our immune systems. I take 4000 IU's of D3, and at least 2000 mg of Vitamin C, as well as 2000 mg of fish oil daily. Be sure to be eating and taking in everything you can to enable your body to resist this virus from attacking and taking over your body.

But don't overdo the D. My neuro had me on 5000 and them it was too high in my blood test and they took it down to 2000. You can mess yourself up taking to much as well as to little.

in reply tomrsmike9

My neurologist and primary care phisician monitor my D levels very closly as I have had chronically low levels since shortly after diagnosis. but thank you for your concern

Yes I am looking at alot of possibilities in terms of work, not much available, but also other possibilities like disabilty, early retirement, but also I miss my route and customers. I am on mega doses of d3 50,000 iu weekly plus 3000 daily. I am really hoping I just don't get virus do take c and other suppliments, and eat very healthy diet. hope you stay well ,and thank you for feed back

I see vitamina C, D are the more important with this subject of coranovirus.

And what happen with the axphisy?
