I have been approved for social security and i am disabled. I hate saying that but i guess i really am. It took me a long time to realize i can never go back to work. I am getting social security and my long term disability picks up the remainder of my salary. I guess its alright to get paid to do absolutely nothing. I never thought i would get there. I used to have a great high paying job with bonuses. So now i say i get a bonus every month. Its not the same for sure but i am tired of fighting the fact that i CANNOT work. My questions are if anyone knows
1.
Since i am disabled do i get discounts on things? Mostly hunting, fishing licenses or anything else
And how do they know i am disabled? Do i get a card for my wallet?
And taxes. Obviously i have to pay taxes but is there somthing i should know about taxes?
Thank you all for reading

Congratulations on your social security approval. I know it’s a long drawn out process but when the back pay check comes it makes it feel a little better.
I know in ga that hunting and fishing license are free.
As far as taxes go it’s been so long I don’t remember. I get a break because of age. 65 or over you get a very big break.
Again it’s been so long I don’t remember how you prove your disabled to the world. I would say your dr could help with that.
Congrats on getting approved for your disability. I'm not sure about discounts, as I think it may depend on where you live? Everyone's taxes are different so I'm not able to help with that. May have to talk with a tax agent. I know some areas have people that do them for free or discounted fee depending on your income. Everyone is different. Best of luck to you.
The national park service has a program that you can sign up for. You'll have to go to their website to find out what you need to show them with your packet. There is a $10 processing fee and you get a pass that allows you free entry to all US national parks for free for life. You also get discounts on any camping fees as well depending on the park and the season.
As for any other discounts you might be able to do a Google search in your area to find out what's available and what you need to do/show to get them.
In SC I have paid minimal car taxes on my car. They don’t want folks to know this. A former MS group leader disclosed it. Don’t forget to sign up for Medicare Part B. I was in my 30’s when I had to apply for disability and had little guidance so I failed to make proper decisions. Another helpful thing is to apply for a handicapped tag for your vehicle. It’s so much better than keeping up with the one that attaches to your rear view mirror. If you own your house see if you qualify for homestead exemption. Good luck!
I just know about fishing parking and launching,if you take your social security acceptance letter to the corp of engineers in alabama (states are different I am sure),they will give you a handicap tag so you won't have to pay a launch fee for your boat and better parking for boat and trailer, good luck
Have not seen any tax breaks in four years of disability and I am 65 now. Do have a hunting and fishing license combo for $10 year. Neurologist did paperwork for disability plates and tags. Have never seen any cards for disability but you can get a card for MS. I do get additional state tax brake on house for reduced income. I do go to Idaho State University’s Dental 🦷 and they give me 50 percent off. Congrats 🍾🎉🎈🎊 on getting approved. Ken 👍🙏😉🐾🐾
Ongrats on being approved. For federal taxes most of disability isn't taxable but you have to fill out the worksheet to find out. You will get a statement comparable a 1099 from Social Security. Any other income is handled just as before. Its worth talking to a tax person.
It's also worth getting permanent tags for your vehicles.
You will get a Medicare card telling you what you are eligible for. You should be eligible foe parts A, B & D. A & B are medical & D is for drugs. Most DiseaseModifyingThetapy drugs are covered under part D, Ocrevus I know is not, it falls under B. It's also worth signing up for a M edicare advantage insurance plan after you get your Medicare card. When new to Medicare you only have a short time to get insurance or you will have to wait until the end of the year. There are lists of insurance companies on the Social Security web site. Hope this wasn't throughly confusing!
Thank you all for replying. I appreciate it. I have talked to my tax preparer. Since i am in Oregon, apparently Oregon does not tax you. Whatever that means.
For everyone that did reply I never want anything for free and i am happy to pay my taxes. Well not happy but I will pay them. I have never been in this position so I am just learning. I think i am eligible for medicare in November. i will have lots more questions.
