This is pretty obvious in my opinion but I understand that some people may feel a little intimidated by medical professionals with lots of letters after their names and certificates from expensive schools on their walls. Ask questions, even ones that "YOU" think are dumb. Ask them again and again until "YOU" get an answer that makes sense to "YOU". Last time I checked there were not many board-certified neurologists in this group, with fifty yearsof experience. So the question "YOU" have at your next appointment is valid. It deserves an answer and an explanation to your satisfaction Ask again and again until "YOU" understand it. I find the phrase "No, I do not understand that let me phrase my question another way" often helps. Perhaps the words "YOU" are using do not convey your confusion. of course a smile and an I do not understand can you explain that simpler for me please, usually work as well. Having an idea of the answer first is always good. I never go into a doctors office without some idea of the answer to any question I may ask. Talking with the nursing staff is a good idea as well.

Enter your doctors office knowledgeably, use them as a sounding block and confirmation tool for any wild ideas and theories "YOU" may have. Of course "YOU" have wild theories and ideas don't "YOU"? Get them answered make them work for the money that "YOU" pay them, not just as a drug scrip writer. This is a condition that we have, not them not anybody else. The question "YOU" ask might seem silly to somebody else, but it is your question. Ask it.

It is kissmoose season go to Amazon buy a laminated chart of the Brain and of the Nervous system. Stick them on the wall and look at them, with a pointer trace where nerves go. Learn this, have an idea what is going on in your body. I feel the why is a little beyond me even after twenty-plus years, but the how, I can give myself an idea of, and so can "YOU". I do not need to know all the words, synapses etceter. I can know what is going on. Why, that is easy. Because I am human, can I stop it? NO, why not? Again because I am human. Get your head around this, become comfortable with it. Not happy, comfortable in yourself. ms is a lifelong incurable condition. Treatable, thank you Disease-Modifying Therapy (DMT) but not curable.

Your life is not hopeless, "YOU" merely haave to make changes. I know that "YOU' can do it. Let yourself do it, come to terms with it. Never be flippant, merely at ease with it. No matter what challenges it will throw at "You over your many years with this condition.

I agree with your post and let me add that the only dumb question there is is the one that wasn't asked! :-D

so very true

My neurologist was not expecting my questions (I come from a healthcare background as do many of my family members). I felt like she was giving me answers to just answer until after a few appts I said “if you don’t know the answer, it’s ok. I would you rather say you don’t know than just try to make something up” Our relationship changed that day bc she admitted that some of my questions were quite challenging & she hadn’t been asked them before. She started saying she didn’t know when she didn’t & I felt she started taking my concerns more seriously.
