Best mattress

Hello all!

I have always had trouble staying asleep and was wondering what mattress people like. My last two have worn out within a year and I weigh less than 150 pounds so it shouldn't be doing that. I have been sleeping better since going to a neurologic chiropractor the last couple months but the trough worn into my mattress is still bothersome. I also just started Gabapentin at bedtime to help with vertigo from my MS and that seems to be getting me more deep sleep. I am hoping a good mattress might be the final thing to get me restful sleep.

I have found that the most comfortable thing for me is an air mattress on top of the mattress, on my side of the bed. We have folded the prior memory foam over to just my husband's side. An $8 Walmart mattress lasts me about 6 months. I've tried more expensive air mattresses and they don't last me any longer. Let me know if you try it.

I hadn't thought of this. I always sleep good on a air mattress when we camp. I will give this a try. Thanks!

Hope it works for you. I tried so many mattress combos with memory foam or other toppers. The air mattress is also easy to take with you when traveling.

I bought a Tempurpedic (R) mattress about 2 years ago. A very good mattress but it was very pricey. I would constantly be waking up when my spouse would move. This mattress doesn't do that. :-D

We bought a memory foam mattress a few years ago and still like it.

Ironically, I can't remember the brand or where we got it.:D

Lol, we got a memory foam mattress top but I can still feel the trough under it. It is under warranty and a technician is coming to look at it. Hopefully I get a new mattress and then will put the memory foam back on top. If it happens again I need a new option

Hopefully, it will work out.

Not sure if it will work 4 u but have a friend who placed a piece of vinyl underpinning and put it over the deformation and top that with 4 inch topper and he loves it! Worked and cheap!!!

I don't know if it's about a particular brand but I had bad luck with the "newer" mattresses that you don't flip. (I say "newer" because this was about 12-15 years ago. How time flies!) It seemed like all the mattresses were being made really thick, with plusher tops, and exactly the same thing happened to me, with a trough appearing after just a few months' use. I know one was a Sealy and I think the other one was an Englander. I was, fortunately, given a second-hand, flippable mattress that I've been using ever since; this one may also be Englander, but obviously of a completely different style.

I think the next time I buy a mattress, if they're still making these silly plush mattresses, I will look for a foam mattress. That's what I had in my college dorm and I loved it.

I totally agree!! That is why I got a mattress without a pillow top but it is not flippable. Wish I still had my old mattress from back in the day!

Conspiracy to sell more mattresses!

We have a Sealy cushion top that is flippable, but it's going on 15 yrs old. We both feel like we're going to slide off!😊😉 I would certainly like to have one that I could raise up just my side at night. I've been watching all the sales and hope to get a new bed soon!

After months of checking out beds and sleeping on childhood flip able extra extra firm mattress (had company over). Still felt great and familiar. Also wanted cooling feature, spring hybrid -went with stearns & foster through Costco. Well worth it! Ten year warranty! :D

Cooling feature would be great, I am hot when I sleep but cold all day. I know I am getting sleepy when I start feeling hot 😁 thanks for the info!

When we moved into our new home we purchased Sealy mattresses.

All of us are very comfy. It's nice and firm. If you also need a pillow

I strongly suggest Ugh side sleeper pillow. I had been using the same pillow

for at least 18 yrs. and decided it was time to replace it.

I hope that's helpful.

Best Wishes,

Leslie

You will sleep like a baby! It's so comfortable. I found mine on line at Bed and Bath.com.

Let me know if you get it.

I already went online to find it 😁 Bed Bath and Beyond don't have it in stock in King size but found it on Ebay. I am going to order when I get paid again!

We bit the bullet and paid the $$$ to get a Sleep Number bed. After spending the first week or so figuring out my number, I have been sleeping better than I have in years. It’s pricey, but worth it, I think. And guaranteed for 25 years.

ahrogers profile image
ahrogers in reply to Texandyroe

I have wondered about the sleep number but haven't known anyone who had one. Thanks for the feedback!

Texandyroe profile image
Texandyroe in reply to ahrogers

We decided that if we were going to pay the big bucks, we would go all out and get the split king. Hubby’s side is a much different number, and we both sleep so much better. There’s even a “snore button” on the controller where you can raise the head of his side of the bed if/when he starts snoring, and it works great!

ahrogers profile image

Sounds perfect!

We also bit the bullet and splurged for the Sleep Number, after going through several mattresses way too quickly. Ours is the split king. I am a side sleeper, too. I found a good, firm pillow at Target that is not very expensive. Thus, I can replace it as frequently as needed.

ahrogers in reply to Nana5B

My current pillow is from Target but it was still over $30. It is pretty good but I would like something better. The Ugg pillow is only $50 for the king size so worth giving a try.

Thank you for the feedback. I think I will save up for the Sleep Number split king mattress!!

Tempurpedic. I’m still sleeping well on the one I bought in 2003.

You can purchase a 2" thick foam pad to put on top of your existing mattress and see if this helps. FYI.

ahrogers profile image
ahrogers in reply to sashaming1

I tried that but can still feel the trough. Plan to put it on the next mattress and hope it doesn't wear a trough in the top.

Thank you!

costs an arm and a leg but IMHO tempurpedic is the absolute best

To those of you talking about a trough in your bed. (I worked in the office of a mattress factory for 21 years.) It means you are what people call a "dead sleeper". You climb into bed, get comfortable, and then stay in the same position pretty much the entire night. You don't roll around a lot. Your mattress conforms to how you sleep. If you were baking a pie and making pie crust you would roll your rolling pin back and forth to make it even, not just let it stay pretty much in the same spot. You are supposed to turn your mattress (if it's a flip-able one) end to end and side to side periodically.

Saying all of the above, when my son was staying at Shriner's in Chicago and we stayed the night before at a Ronald McDonald house. I never slept better! I asked them what mattresses they used (I looked for the tag but they had covers zipped over the mattresses). They told me that Tempurpedic donated them. Want one!!!

ahrogers profile image
ahrogers in reply to mrsmike9

I actually wake up several times a night and turn over. I wish I was a dead sleeper 😁 my sheets always get turned sideways and twisted under me. I have to get the top back at the head of the bed every night 😃 I never had this problem with older mattresses only the ones in the past 5 years or so.

We just got a new mattress on sale for $1000 from matress firm and long story short, we could have took a little vacation with the $ because we've slept on this bed maybe 3x😐😑 lol

On Tempurpedic, I was a permanent fixture at the chiropractor's for years. Life has changed with Saatva:

I also had trouble sleeping, but got a purple bed a year ago, and haven’t slept better for years, I also got the original bed, before they came out with another version which is twice the price, and very happy with what I got. Good luck!

I also take gabapentin, hasn't changed my daily meandering but hasn't really helped my sleep but has had some effect on the R.L.S. As for a good matress, good luck! They are either low quality for $1000 or u can splurge on a $7000 luxury bed.........cuz I got it like that.....😂

J.K. but I truly hope u find ur cloud you'd be proud to call ur m.s. hug!!! (Im still wasting money on the elusive dream factory kinda sleep!😉
