When I moved out at eighteen I had a pay phone ☎️ in my house 🏑. It was a dime to call out, but my buddies had the number and could call me πŸ˜†. We also got a percentage back off the phone πŸ‘. Thought we were pretty cleaverπŸ‘πŸ˜†πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜Š

Soon there will be an historical marker to explain that each phone was connected with wires to every other phone, and before the automated switching systems were invented, there were local and long distance operators who would manually connected the circuits. My aunt was a long distance operator for AT&T in New York. When circuits were not busy, she could call us with no charge. We never called her because it was a toll call. OMG how the world has changed!

Ha! Gone are the days of playing telephone. Remember the game where you talked into empty vegetable cans that were connected by a long string? The game was to try and make out what the other was saying. My cousin had one in his tree 'fort' :-D

My son went to a garage sale and bought an old radio. It was very retro and cool. He went in his room and plugged it in then rushed out. "Guess what, Mom? You have to turn a DIAL to change the stations!"

when I was working,I took an old microwave oven to work and my young employees would look at it and ask,"it has a dial, how do you use it"? they looked at me the same way I look at them and say "tweet??"

Have you seen the video with 2 teens trying to figure out how to use a rotary phone? 20 minutes and they still hadn't figured it out! My grandparents still had a phone in their house that didn't have a dial at all. You had to pick up the receiver and wait for the operator to respond to connect you to the person you needed. Added bonus the operator could listen in on your conversation without you being aware of it...kinda like Alexa, sir I, and the other "assistant " devices today with tech support listening in doing "quality control".
