I promised to post about my first time ordering online and picking up at Walmart. I ordered from my list and found most of the items I wanted, choosing to make a small order for the first attempt. I used my desktop for this first order. I added a couple of things I didn't need right away to get to the minimum order amount for using my $10 off coupon for first time ordering. I thought I could use my regular Walmart app, but it took only a few seconds to download the Walmart grocery app on my phone. The ordering was easy, and I found a convenient pick up time slot. I got the email that my order was ready about 15 minutes before the scheduled time. After clicking on the "check in" button, I drove to the parking lot. I realized that I must not have actually checked in, but after doing so, which tells them which parking spot I was in and the color of my car, I only waited 1 minute before my order was brought to the car.
The "shopper" showed me each piece of produce, giving me every opportunity to reject any. I'm very particular about produce and expected that the lettuce and bananas would have to go back, but they were just what I would have chosen. She made one substitution on a boxed cereal, which I declined, but I checked my order against the receipt I had printed at home, and it was all there. She even offered to transfer my order to bags I had in the back of the car and recycle the bags she had packed my order in for me.
I had a whopper of a headache and would not have gone to the store at all, which would have meant my husband would have had to go after work. I felt a little more independent, since I didn't have to bother my husband. The drive is only about 5 minutes from my house, so even though I felt poorly, I figured I could manage that short drive, but it's good to know that I could designate my husband as an alternate, which would still save him time and many phone calls asking me about each item he was unsure of. I'm very grateful that this service exists, and now that I know how easy it is, I plan to use it more. I'll be checking out other stores, but all of them would mean a bit more of a drive. The only difficulty I see about using this service is if one doesn't have a smart phone. I can imagine how wonderful this could be when the heat (or cold)really gets going or when not feeling too well.

My wife just tried it this weekend and loves it. The only drawback was that so many people were ordering this way she ordered Saturday but they said it wouldn’t be ready til Monday which was alright because it was just a trial with things we didn’t need in a hurry.
There is a sign posted nearby that just says “Inquiries” and a phone number. My sister and I have been sorely tempted to call and ask what the capital of North Dakota is.
Thank you for your detailed recounting. In California, my local Vons offered a delivery service, and now in Virginia, in addition to Walmart, Kroger's also offers pick up (others may as well).
Glad it worked out for you. I have been using a similar service at a local grocery store for years. I have mixed feelings about Walmart starting the same thing. I like to support local businesses and the Walmart is right across the street. Of course, there are many places were Walmart is the only option so it is good for you.
