Early Happy New Year to everyone!!
One of the lesser known symptoms of having multiple sclerosis is random itchy skin. I do suffer from this.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I use a lotion called Sarna to help.

I have to tell you I did have itchy skin about Year a year ago but now I don’t have it it just went away. I haven’t thought about that for A while. I can’t think if I did anything different
The itching is called neuropathic itch and I take gabapentin for it
Before my diagnosis, I would occasionally get areas on my scalp which felt itchy for no reason - the scalp looked totally healthy. I actually asked my husband to look for ticks since at times it would feel as though something were crawling under the skin. I've had that same sensation on my shoulders and back.
Thanks for posting about this.
I have an itchy scalp often, it drives me crazy. My neuro said to just live with it, it is just ms. Kelly
The hibiscus oil helped me alot. You can find it on Amazon.
My head was a little itchy and flaky and my dermatologist prescribed “Ketoconazole 2 percent “ shampoo 🧴 every other day and leave it on for five minutes. Did this for month and then went to once a week for the last year and it’s doing great 👍. Also use Head and Shoulders on the other days. He advised to only wash it two the three times a week. When I was working it was one or two times a day. Luckily I guess my hair doesn’t get oily so less shampooing works out 👍. Trial and error till the right thing works 👍. Ken 🐾😊
Would coconut oil at least soothe the skin whether it is "all in the mind" or not? ☺
Yes. It sjould help with your skin. As I said in another response I use that and hibiscus oil on my sclap from time to time. I like for my lotion to absorb in my skin quickly which coconut oil doesn't do.
How about sweet almond oil in the mix? That normally is absorbed quite quickly on my skin but I haven't used it on my scalp.
Yes, I itch all time! For no reason that I can see! My legs, arms, body, head, back. I use lotions, cortisone creams, whatever I can find, and it gives temporary relief. Then it will start over again, somewhere else.
I've got a spot on my back near my left shoulder that drives me nuts every once in awhile. I tend to find a wall corner or a door opening to scratch away at it. Last night a pair of pliers was used for the purpose. Because most commercial lotions contain alcohol I can't use them. I'm allergic to the alcohol it makes my skin break out in a really bad itchy rash.
I make a lotion that contains coconut oil, jojoba oil, and aloe vera. It helps my hands but it's really hard to reach that spot on my back to use any lotion.
I just started making lotion and I like it better than store bought.
What is your recipe?
Holding something cold on your body can help, the cold sensation overwhelms the itch sensation. Just adding to the mix of ideas...
I'm aware that most of my itches are MS based. I don't have scalp issues but everywhere else. Can the hibiscus oil be used all over and and is it fast acting?
I currently use Gold Bond lotion but it takes sometime before it starts working.
Usually when I go to bed my feet will get an area where it itches like mad. As if I need any more trouble going to sleep!
Amen!
