Head/ear buzzing - any suggestions to help?

Always looking for the everyday, simple tricks that can make our lives easier as MSers...

Does anybody have suggestions to deal with the constant buzzing in the head due to MS?

It does not (yet) prevent me from following asleep (frankly, if I lay flat, I'll fall asleep because of fatigue), but the buzzing makes it hard to concentrate.

I try to stay hydrated, not drink alcohol, and avoid the heat. Some music makes it better, others make it worse.

Let me know what works for you. Thank you!

Hi anaishunter it sounds like Tinnitus.

~But Get this Checked by Your Health Team!~

It's annoying! Sometimes listening to the ocean sounds will help drown mine out. Or rain. ☺️

Good luck! 🤗💕

Yep, learn to ignore it. White noise helps. From the one who's had it for as long as I've had MS

Update. Last night, as it does occasionally, I waked up in the middle of the night with the buzz pulsating like I could "hear" my heart in my head.

I was not hot, but a cold pack from the freezer under my pillow slowly made the pulsing disappear.

I get the pulsing, too! I mentioned it to my neurologist and he said it's not likely related to MS. I've since read that it's called pulsatile tinnitus and not really related to other types of tinnitus. I keep meaning to go back and read more about it, but in the meantime I seem to have developed regular tinnitus in my left ear that's just a fairly constant buzz (thankfully it's not usually loud).

I have that stupid ringing & buzzing in my ears constantly & have had it most of my life. I used to think that quiet was noisy. For me it is. Loud noises will set it off to the point that it hurts. Most of the time it sounds like I have those old TV tubes buzzing in my ears. (I'm old enough to remember when TV's had tubes) Meditation will usually calm it down for me. Hope you find something that helps.

I have tinnitus and learned the following: take meds to improve blood flow in the ears, determine if the noise increases with your heart rate, have a doctor look in your ears to see if they are plugged or damaged in some way, avoid loud noises (at work? - a hobby? etc.), use "White" noise, at night, there are psychological remedies as well. Look on the internet for ideas. Eg. nationalmssociety.org. It may be a non-normal symptom of MS but possible.

thank you for the advice.

I'm quite certain that the buzzing started after an MRI in April.
