I currently teach in a middle school and I am four years away from retirement. I take Copaxone. My neurologist wants to put me on something stronger, but I am afraid stronger medication lowers my immune system and I will be sick all the time. I’ve had breast cancer, so I know one medication is out. Are there any medications are more effective but do not lower your immune response?

Your neurologist should be able to answer this (and explain why you need to change?). I would assume no, but most of the drugs are more effective than Copaxone when you compare them. I’d love to hear what decision is made! GL to you. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.
Thanks Kdali! Based on MRI & # of lesions, Neuro thinks I’ll break through Copaxone. He wants to try Gilenya. Side effects are scary, especially exposed to daily Petri dish 😬 (tried Tecfidera but made me sick, sick, sick 🤒)
Ahhh, good reason! I’m sorry 😵 I don’t know much about that one, but several here have taken it and probably have had exposure to kids or grandkids while on it, if you wanted to ask specifically if those on Gilenya felt like they got more viruses. Your immune system maybe stout enough to take it.
Hi Rileymom I'm with kdali on this one, your Neuro should have discussed it better with you.
MSAA has what's called S.E.A.R.C.H. that lists the DMTs that are available. And how they work. Too help you better understand them. And discuss them with your neuro.

Check it out.
I hope it answers allot of your questions. And gives you questions to bring to your own neuro! 🤗💕

I stopped sticking myself and went on Gilenya about four years ago. I love this med. I don't have any side effects at all. Avonex just about killed me. I was sick four of seven days a week. Gilenya took all that away. I love it.
