Hopefully not an MS thing...

I've been having incredible hip pain. I went to a hip doctor who gave me a cortisone shot in the bursa and told me if the pain comes back, see a back doctor. The shot worked for 6 days. So I call the back doctor. Had to wait 2 weeks (Advil taken constantly). Saw the back doctor yesterday who told me that since the shot worked for awhile, it's a hip thing... Prescribed a pain med (supposed to work 24 hours, it worked for 8) and PT twice a week for 4 weeks, then see the hip doctor again. (Can you say "ping pong ball"??) If hip doctor says "back doctor" I'm going to tell them to meet and figure this out! Praying it's not MS because I think I have a better chance of pain relief with a structural thing. sigh...

Hi, mrsmike9 . I can't believe this....all of a sudden I have been having such bad hip pain in both hips I have no idea what is going on. Years ago I was dx'd with very bad osteoporosis in the hips, but I had no pain at all. They put me on Forteo for 2 yrs., the limit (at least back then) that you could be on it. It grew back so much bone that at the end of the two yrs I wasn't even osteopenia any more, and last time they checked I was getting closer but still not there yet. Now I am on Prolea every 6 mos and I will have another DEXA scan in Oct., but apparently osteoporosis doesn't hurt! So not sure what it is. Maybe it's just the stuff I've been having to do around the house since my husband got home after TKR surgery....But I have never had this before. Sukie427

I sure hope the doctors can figure this out quickly and give you adequate pain relief. Keep us in the know.

Whatever next? I just wonder about the medical profession now a days, no one seems to want to take responsibility for anything in case they give a wrong dx. Your hips are at the core of your skeleton, so I can appreciate the pain you are in. I do hope that you find out what it is. Have you tried going to a homeopathic person, someone who might listen to what is really going on with you. I hope it’s not your ms, and I hope that it is treatable. Keep us informed, blessings and a big hug, Jimeka 🤗 🦋 🍫 🌈

MrsMike9buffering I have gone to my pain clinic with bursa(and injections) also.I dont "think" that its part of the MS I have but the mechanics of how I use my body(or it uses me)....It took several and I ice and heat.Think of it like this...bubble wrap under the skin and it starts to swell with water but the skin wont stretch...boy does it hurt.best wishes...

I would DEFINITELY mention it to your neurologist sooner than later. My hip pain happens when I have been sitting awhile and then try to get up. My Dr.said that my pain is from a muscle that tenses up while sitting and makes standing and walking painful. I also have fibromyalgia so my muscles may be tightened from that disease, increasing the pain I experience. If it is an “MS thing”, you are wasting time, money and energy at the other Dr offices. Rule out MS before aggravating yourself further by ping ponging between Drs who might never figure it out. If it is MS don’t panic, my pain is worse in certain weather or if I ride in a car instead of an SUV. 🕶

I had my first PT appointment yesterday. He was able to determine that it IS the back and not the hip. Stupid back doctor never even checked me out! He just looked at the x-ray and dismissed me... By the time, after the stretches and my PT pulling on my leg from various angles, I could walk across the room without pain and no limping! So on the right track, finally. Woke up hurting and lay in bed and did the stretches I could remember. It helped! I'm making a copy of the paper so I can put it by the bed for when I can't remember all five of them. Yeah!
