We have had hawks raising families in the neighborhood the past few years. It can be really fun to see the ungainly youngsters learning to fly! They're super noisy, and we were constantly seeing them flying low over us. We get a lot of up-close views. Then, when they're older and learning to hunt, it can be quite gruesome, because they're often right outside the house with their "meals". Then, one day, we would notice that it was quiet, because they were ranging farther away to hunt, and they had learned to fly higher. It's been really cool.

Beautiful photo! Last year we had a hawk show up in the tree in our front yard. Not sure if s/he was there because of the suet feeder I have out for the birds in that tree or not.

I think it may have been interested in eating the birds that were attracted by the suet. Mostly, it seems like they prefer rodents, but they will unfortunately kill birds on occasion.

I have heard that before...circle of life I guess. Thankfully he was only there for about 5 minutes and then left. Haven't saw another one around.
