Avonex pen experience.

Took my 1st Avonex pen injection last fri night week at 10.00pm.Took paracetamol & Brufen 1 hr beforehand.Woke at 3.30 am shaking & shivering.Pains & aches for all of Sat.Feeling better Sun dinner time.Took My 2nd one Fri night,set my alarm every 5 hours to take the above tabs .Felt way better 2nd time.Crucial to to take tabs at right time I think.Hope you are all trying to stay positive with this unpredictable disease.Roll on summertime 😀🍀

I'm glad things have settled down. Dealing with medication side effects can be scary.

Hope that avonex works for you than it did for me. I had severe flu like symptoms for 2-3 days after each injection. The doc said that it should stop after 4 to 6 weeks. 8 months later no improvement and new spots found on the brain. I'm on tecfidera now and like it a lot better. No flu like symptoms and no needles is an extra bonus.

Make sure to talk to your doctor if the flu symptoms don't stop within the timeframe he/she told you. Because it's not going to help maintain your quality of life if your spending your all of your weekends in bed with flu like symptoms.

I'm looking forward to the day when we can take a pill or two and be done with MS forever. Wouldn't that be great?

Peruzzot ,glad to hear Tecfidera is working for you,unfortunately neurologist can’t guarantee that I could fully absorb tablets due to a previous procedure.Choices were limited so went with the Avonex pen.Flu like symtoms & tiredness can hit the next day,hopefully this will go in time..😀🍀

I took Avonex for ten years. I was advised to eat fresh pineapple a couple of hours before I took my shot. I think it helped, therefore it did. My neurologist said he had no problem with me eating pineapple.

Wish someone had given me the pineapple hint before. It may have helped plus added bonus...It's my favorite fruit. Would have eaten more of it just as a convenient excuse. 😊
