How long did you wait after your last DMT before starting Another?

Hi Everyone,

I am switching from Tysabri to Ocrevus. For those of you who have switched from Tysabri to another disease modifying therapy, how long did you wait in between?

My neurologist said the “safe period” is 8 weeks but the infusion center can’t fit me in until 10 weeks. Even though it is only a few weeks, I am worried about a resurgence of symptoms if I don’t start Ocrevus within the safe period.

I’d be grateful to hear about your experience and thoughts. Thanks all!

Hi Jmhnath good question, and 1 I don' have an answer for. I would think that if its a problem, your Neuro would be right on top of it?

Someone will have a better answer for you tho I'm sure.😊

I was on Tesfadera (sp)? And then I was going to go on Ocrevus I was told to get off of it for 8 weeks but I ended being off of it for 10 weeks because of scheduling.i was told that’s how long it takes to have a medicine to be out of your system.

Jmhnath I don't think 2 weeks would be that big of a deal. It may even better than 'safe'. I could see if it was a 2-month delay, then I would really be worried but I don't think I would be too worried about a delay of 2 weeks.

I did not have to wait when I switch from Tysabri to Aubagio. Good luck 👍🐾Ken

Each DMT requires a different wait/wash out period and there are likely differences in that among neuros but there are standard guidelines.

Thanks all for your input and advice!

Here is some information I hope might help.

Rituximab [Rituxan] is superior to fingolimod [Gilenya] for certain patients with multiple sclerosis.

A new study indicates that rituximab [Ocrevus is a "newer" version of rituximab that has FDA approval for MS] is more effective than fingolimod for preventing relapses in patients with highly active multiple sclerosis switching from treatment with natalizumab [Tysabri]. The study included patients infected with JC virus
